ANNOUNCEMENTS
[Walter Driscoll asked to interview me in order to preserve on video some of the latest modifications and evolutions in the versions of the message offered here since 1989. He would label the discussion, "Unlearning with Floyd Henderson."
Please note: For those who have a problem hearing what is being shared, the video offers a fairly accurate set of closed captions which some listeners might want to activate.
The interview is available for viewing by clicking on video "NUMBER THIRTEEN" in the column to the right.]
1. [See the offer in gold text following this post for details on how you can watch a retreat on video which includes a detailed discussion of all seven of the steps on the path as used by Maharaj]
2. Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns. See the green text after today's post for the full meaning and implications of that.
3. A new video ("Number Ten: Awakening Together Satsang, March 2018") has now been added in the far right column of this page, offering the opportunity to view a recent 2018 satsang session with Floyd being interviewed by Regina and Jacqueline of "The Awakening Together Group." (See the details in the blue text after this post.)
4. Some prefer paperback books even if they have to wait a day or so to receive it and have to pay more for a printed book and its shipment. Now, 10 paperback books by Henderson are in print and available in two anthologies through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and over 40,000+ booksellers around the globe including in the Americas, Germany, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Spain, Brazil and South Korea. See the end of this post in red text for details.
5. Would you like to have us send to someone as a gift from you a copy of any ebook in our inventory? See the offer in purple text at the end of this post.
6. Or, you may purchase a Floyd Henderson Shopify Gift Card here for someone and offer recommendations for the books in Floyd's store which might be of assistance to them.
7. You may click here to visit Floyd's bookstore which offers both digital books and paperback books which deal with non-duality, non-duality-based fictional adventures, recovery, and financial budgeting.
IT IS THE HEIGHT OF ARROGANCE AND THE HEIGHT OF DUAL-MINDEDNESS FOR ANYONE TO BELIEVE THAT SHE OR HE CAN UNEQUIVOCALLY IDENTIFY WHAT IS “DEFINITELY GOOD” AND WHAT IS “DEFINITELY BAD”
“Only that person will visit this place whose virtue and sin have come to an end.”
--Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Earlier, this was shared: a fellow named “Yeshu’a” (but mistakenly called “Jesus”) said after he was exposed to the non-dual understanding and began to share it:
“A dual-minded person is unstable in all ways.” Not, “A dual-minded person is evil in all ways”? No. Unstable. Mentally and emotionally unstable.
It is estimated for mid-year 2023 that the Christian population of the planet is 2,604,381,000. So to those 2,604,381,000 people, the one whom you refer to as . . .
your “Savior” “Redeemer,” “Bread of Life,” “Lord,” “Son of the Living God,” and “Only Begotten Son” just told you in his own words that if you buy into the dual-minded belief that you can definitely identify what is good and what is bad that . . .
you are unstable in all ways; that . . .
you are unsound mentally; and that . . .
you are unhinged emotionally.
Have you ever considered how unstable those are who are trapped in the
dualistic thinking - and, therefore, in the dual-mindedness - which dominates
the entire existence of persons whose every thought is driven by an ideology
and a massive level of arrogance which combine to inspire an endless obsession
with constantly judging who is “right” and who is “wrong”; who is “good” and
who is “evil”; and what is “good” and what is “bad”?
How assured their misery will be when trying to apply supposedly-absolute
truths to an all-relative existence. Suffering and resentment and anger and
discontentment will most certainly dominate the existence of those who are bent
on reforming the world; on changing people;
on stamping out “evil”; on desiring to improve themselves (their “selves”) and
all “others”; on working to live “the right way” (as determined by whom?); on
trying to force all people to improve; and on forcing all “others” to think
exactly the way that they think rather than enjoying the peace that only comes
with a no-thinking existence; in other words, on being perfect and demanding
that all others be perfect as well (again, as determined by whom?)
What a futile effort to pin one’s happiness on hitting a target . . . dead
center . . . every day . . . all day long when, not only would a relative
target be in constant motion but when the fact is that a target that can be hit
dead center every time does not even exist.
To set an unattainable goal is to set oneself up for misery and suffering and
pain throughout the entire relative existence, and to desire to control the
minds and the behavior of every human on the planet (in fact, of any human on
the planet) is a goal that is both unattainable and unbelievably arrogant and
extraordinarily insane.
To travel for days and weeks and months and years to reach a city that does not
existence would be insane. Similarly, to be driven to reach an unreachable goal
is another form of insanity.
Moreover, to believe that - in an existence where all things are relative -
that one can know, absolutely, what is always “right” and what is always “wrong”;
that one can know what is definitely “good” and what is definitely “bad”;
and
that one can know who is most certainly “good” and who is most certainly “evil”
is not only one of the greatest forms of arrogance but is also one of the
greatest forms of insanity.
No one can know what is “good” and what is “bad” for no one is able to see into
the future and know absolutely and definitely and certainly what the results of
any given happening will be in ten or twenty or fifty or a hundred years.
Such
dual-mindedness, such “good” vs. “bad” or “good” vs. “evil” nonsense, was
illustrated this way a little over five years ago:
Tom and Jim met in a nearby mall:
Tom: Hey Jim. Long time no see.
Jim: It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
Tom: Fall of 2002, I think, at the state championship game when Jim Jr. played.
Did he go on to play college ball?
Jim: Yeah. He got a full scholarship to the University of Texas.
Tom: Well that’s good.
Jim: No, that was bad because the pressure was too much for him . . . football
. . . studies . . . constant concern on campus about terrorism attacks or gun
shootings . . . and then he broke a leg
in a game.
Tom: Awww, that’s too bad.
Jim: Actually, he thought it was good. The time required to heal gave him time
to think about what he wanted to do with his life.
Tom: Well then, that was a good thing.
Jim: Well, we thought it was bad. During that time he decided he wanted to join
the military and fight for his country. He said that was his calling and wanted
to make a career of the army. The leg healed perfectly and they took him.
Tom: Well, that’s a good thing . . . at least he found a direction for his
life, and he followed his heart.
Jim: Well, my wife and I think it was a bad thing . . . they sent him home a
month ago.
Tom: Well, that sounds like a good thing to me.
Jim: Not really. He was in a flag-draped coffin.
Tom: Oh my gosh, Jim! That’s horrible!
No one in a realm of relatives can correctly say with certainty that “this is
good, but that is bad” or “this is bad, but that is good.
Persons are trapped in ignorance because of their dualistic perspectives and
because of their supposed “need” to classify everything as “positive or
negative,” as “good or bad,” as “black or white” as “good or evil” with no
possible chance of any gray areas existing at all.
Religious
persons have been heard for nearly seventy of my seventy-five years, explaining exactly what
will get me a reward and exactly what will get me punishment, though their
criteria vary by denomination or sect;
judgmental persons have been heard as they share what they are sure is moral
and what they are sure is immoral; politicians have informed the nation that “this
country” or “that country” was evil, only to start a war, end a war, and then
become their trading partners and allies decades later;
spiritual
persons have assured me over the last several decades that they could teach me
some spiritual disciplines that - if practiced on a daily basis - would guarantee
a “good” life.
Persons talk about “good weather” and complain about “bad weather”; about
getting a “good job” but later about leaving that “bad job”; about finding “a
good man” or “a good woman,” only to leave after finding they had “married some
kind of wicked devil”; about finding “a great lover” who would later be
re-labeled as “a sex maniac” instead;
about
a man with “a great work ethic” who would later be re-classified as “a
workaholic”; about a “really cool woman” who would later be labeled as “an
emotionally-unavailable witch”; about “True Believers” vs. “Infidels”; and
about “good people” vs. “evil people.”
In an existence in which everything is relative, in which change is the only
constant, and in which there are no absolutes, what (other than colossal
egotism, self-satisfied arrogance, and total blindness) would make persons believe
so arrogantly and judgmentally that they know for a fact exactly what is “good”
and exactly what is “bad”?
I’ve noted for about 70 of my 75 years that people who believe themselves to be “godly” often take the next step and believe that they are God or act as if they are.
To be continued.
