THE DUALITY OF PURITANISM VS. WILDNESS WHICH LEADS HUMANS TO BE “UNSTABLE IN ALL WAYS”
“First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then, in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God. Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something good to happen to you.”

(The removal of the ego part of Freud’s triad and the superego part of the triad have been discussed. Now to the id. )
The id and its subconscious controlling influence over thoughts and words and deeds bring a unique challenge to those seeking to be freed from being driven and restricted by subconscious / unconscious influences.
The issue: while the id is the only element of the triad that is natural and inherent, it can become as unnatural and as supernaturally warped as the ego and the superego. Consider this take:
“How does id affect a person?
The id is driven by the pleasure principle, which strives for immediate gratification of all desires, wants, and needs. If these needs are not satisfied immediately, the result is a state of anxiety or tension. For example, an increase in hunger or thirst should produce an immediate attempt to eat or drink.”
Yet the id’s desire for immediate gratification can cause a person to fixate in the childish mode. As a child, that is normal. Carrying that childish fixation into adulthood is quite abnormal and can have significant repercussions (relatively speaking).
Cynthia Vinney offers a review of what we’ve discussed so far:
One of Freud’s most well-known ideas was his theory of personality, which proposed that the human psyche is composed of three separate but interacting parts: the id, the ego, and the superego.
The three parts develop at different times and play different roles in personality, but work together to form a whole and contribute to an individuals’ behavior. While the id, ego, and superego are often referred to as structures, they are purely psychological and don’t exist physically in the brain.

While Freud’s ideas have often been critiqued and labeled unscientific, his work continues to be highly influential in the field of psychology.
Freud’s work wasn’t based on empirical research but on his observations and case studies of his patients and others, so his ideas are often viewed with skepticism. Nonetheless, his theories are still considered important. In fact, his concepts and theories are the foundation of psychoanalysis, an approach to psychology that's still studied today.
Freud’s personality theory was influenced by earlier ideas about the mind working at conscious and unconscious levels. Freud believed that early childhood experiences are filtered through the id, ego, and superego, and it is the way an individual handles these experiences, both consciously snd unconsciously, that shapes personality in adulthood.
Note the following which was shared about the id:
“The earliest part of the personality to emerge is the id. The id is present at “birth”and runs on pure instinct, desire, and need. It is entirely unconscious and encompasses the most primitive part of the personality, including basic biological drives and reflexes.
The id is motivated by the pleasure principle, which wants to gratify all impulses immediately. If the id's needs aren’t met, it creates tension. However, because all desires can’t be fulfilled right away, those needs may be satisfied, at least temporarily, through primary process thinking in which the individual fantasizes about what they desire.
Infants’ behavior is driven by the id - they are concerned only with meeting their needs. And the id never grows up. Throughout life, it remains infantile because, as an unconscious entity, it never considers reality. As a result, it remains illogical and selfish. The ego and the superego develop to keep the id in check.”
Talk about a “Catch-22.”
The whole triad mess is involved with the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness and three key symptoms which Maharaj identified as “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.”
All three parts of the id / ego / superego involve persons being driven by “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.”
Therefore, to be freed from being driven by motivators which are rooted in “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity,” the Ultimate Sickness must be treated.
Maharaj did not understand what version of the Ultimate Medicine could most effectively treat the illness.
Thus, he began years of working with those exhibiting evidence of the Ultimate Sickness. His earliest approach was to conduct experiments which were based in recommendations made by his guru:
Use bhajans and dancing to entice Hindus into your loft, then sneak in some non-dual pointers.
He would see that method had little success. Eventually, he would progress enough that he was able to set aside his guru’s approach. The problem?
By then, the transcripts of his talks had been collected and published in the book entitled I Am That. Once the book began reaching an international audience, it attracted thousands of “Spiritual Giant Westerners” to the loft.
Maharaj allowed them to influence him to set aside the version of the Ultimate Medicine he had been offering and to try to treat the Sickness with a “super-spiritual” approach.
Step groups around the globe had been spreading the lie that humanity’s problems were not ultimately centered in the mind but were actually rooted in “a spiritual malady.” Maharaj allowed the Westerners who were showing up in his loft to influence him to offer a version of the Ultimate Medicine that would supposedly heal “sick spirits.”
That failed as well. Finally, Maharaj came to understand that humankind’s problems centered in the mind, period. He began using a treatment plan which was a compound Medicine, part non-dual pointers and part psychological pointers.
