IS YOUR RELATIVE EXISTENCE HAPPENING AS IF YOU ARE DANCING LIGHTLY OR AS IF YOU ARE DOING A STIFF, BOOT-STOMPING, GESTAPO-STYLE MARCH?
In the last series, as I catalogued the changes which manifested during the remainder of the relative existence, I referred to the ability to “dance lightly.”
Eventually, a book with that title came about because of the influence of Andy Gugar. Here’s what happened:
There has long been a movement associated with the literate culture of intellectual endeavor and patronage that dates back to the 1300’s at least. In the 1400’s in Florence, Italy, Cosimo de’ Medici was a significant patron of the arts;
in Elizabethan England, Henry Wriothesley (the Earl of Southampton) was a patron to William Shakespeare, covering living expenses for a time so that the poet / playwright was free to pursue his writing full-time.
In that same tradition, Andrew Gugar, Jr. (after attaining the freedom of Full Realization with his teacher Floyd Henderson) has become a patron of sorts to Floyd; thus, the following happened:
Andy read the following passages in Henderson’s book The Myth of Death:
“So wherefore even the slightest delay in taking the steps to full realization and being done with all of that, once and for all?
Why waste time trying to make sense of the senseless, trying to give meaning to the meaningless, trying to give purpose to that which has no purpose at all? Why not leave the ‘Theater of the Lie’ and enjoy dancing the dance instead?”
and
“See that all of those fluctuations and changes and all of the unsteadiness and instability are happening as part of the ‘mind’-flow. Be rid of the ‘mind’ to be rid of the chaos. Stability can only happen as the Absolute.
“Abide as That now, and be done with ‘life’ and ‘death’ both. Then, dance the dance and merely witness whatever happens, knowing that problems can only come with ‘life’ and that ‘death’ is no problem at all.”
and
“Have you not read here that whatever gives you pleasure will eventually give you pain and that whatever gives you the greatest pleasure will eventually give you your greatest pain? Edward Thomas wrote, ‘And heavy is the tread of the living, but the dead returning lightly dance’.”
At that point, Andy contacted Floyd and explained that he wanted Floyd’s next book to be entitled Dancing Lightly, explaining to seekers what the post-realization manifestation can “look like.”

That book is the result with the exception that I have since completed a revised edition. I will draw from the newer version of that book in this series.
ABOUT THE COVER
There are six figures partially representing the degrees of separation from identifying with the false “I” to abidance as the Absolute. Let the first figure denote the space that stands between the first step “I” and the second step “mind”;
the second figure can symbolize the gap between the “mind” and personality; the third can correspond to the chasm between the third step personality and the fourth step . . . the “not-knowing stage,” etc.
Obviously, the figures epitomize some sort of “evolution,” and there can be - during the relative existence of even the realized - a type of evolution. (See the book entitled Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and His Evolution.)
In fact, the “journey” from the darkness to the light of full realization is not as much an evolutionary process as a cleansing - a housecleaning process, if you will; it does not involve learning more but is focused eventually on unlearning all.
Maharaj would eventually say that “realization is nothing more than casting aside all belief in all learned ignorance and fixating in a no-mind, zero concepts state.”
But, like any evolutionary process, there are steps or stages that must passed through along the way. Eventually, for all seekers that travel the entire “path” to its end, there awaits the possibility of overlaying Reality upon the relative.
Once that happens, then everything involved with non-duality - and with all things relative - can be likened to a dance . . . to a dance that takes place in the lightest and most entertaining of fashions.
Dancing is natural, happening at the most basic level of all that is functioning in this universe, even at the sub-atomic level. It was explained this way to a visitor named Vignesh who described himself as “Hindu by birth but investigating Advaita”:
What is timeless is that which preceded this universe. You should be able to see now that a void cannot “have” consciousness.
You should be able to see that within a space that was once a void, an atom manifested and at a subatomic level, its elements were conscious of the other elements as they moved in a dance.
As for “Vignesh,” where once there was a void of sorts, consciousness manifested within a space and now Vignesh is involved in a dance. The dance should be an entertaining dance . . . understanding the Oneness and therefore understanding the “not-two-ness” of the Am-ness and the THAT-ness.
During that dance, the speck of consciousness called “Vignesh” would know that
neither the body nor the “mind” nor any personality or persona is
experiencing anything.
It would be understood, instead, that all which is phenomenal merely seems to appears in that light, not unlike images flashing across the screen in a movie theater.
Then the dance can last throughout the remainder of the manifestation and will happen with no more concern than that shown by an electron as it dances about in the space of an atom.
In order to participate in the dance, one must un-learn all that she / he has
been told. You have been dancing “their” dance . . . The Dance of the Mirage.
Rather than dancing with that which is authentic, they actually programmed you
not to dance lightly but to march about stiffly instead.
They programmed you to march to the beat of their drum which is pounding out an
unnatural or supernatural beat.
Marching to the beat of their drum will never allow one to enter into the smooth and even flow of the dance of awareness, the dance of freedom, the dance of peace, the dance of joy, the dance of all that is nisarga (natural).
Whereas “they” told you that you are Hindu by birth, You now have an opportunity to awaken to the truth, to know that you are not Vignesh, not Hindu, not born, and not headed to a rebirth or series of rebirths. There is this time only, this moment only. Enjoy it . . . NOW. Dance NOW.
