An Advaita forum focusing on Realisation, enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, abiding naturally, the Oneness, the Nothingness, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

Furthermore, for those who have developed a preference for any non-nisargan yoga or who prefer Traditional Advaita Vedanta, Neo-Advaita, Neo-Vedanta, or Pseudo Advaita: here you will only find the use of the Direct Path Method of teaching along with the Nisarga (Natural) Yoga, all shared in simple, everyday English.

(Please note: The Annual Fall / Winter Season Book Sale is now under way. Most Non-Duality eBooks at floydhenderson.com are on sale at 30-50% off regular price.)

FROM A SITE VISITOR: No prior Me-ness? Surely there was something?

F.: Thx for the question. It will be addressed in tomorrow's post.

The next charge to be addressed in a litany of complaints about "floyd" specifically and about Advaitins in general was an absence of compassion:

"YOU HAVE NO COMPASSION"
It has been noted here time and again that ego-states emote but that the Realized merely witness feelings. Ego-states, when thinking they are being "interfered with or threatened or about to be destroyed," will become emotionally-intoxicated and emote.

That happens so frequently among the non-Realized that there is now a global pattern among persons who shift constantly from chaos to efforts to control in order to try to put an end to chaos. That only generates more chaos, more efforts to control, more chaos, ad infinitum. Welcome to "the world" of the non-Realized who desire control and power and who generate chaos.

The Realized do not try to control anyone or anything, knowing that there is no "one" and that there is no "do-er" that could do either. All that can happen is witnessing. When the sages' advice to "Do nothing. Just be!" is understood, certainly the resulting dispassion - and the resulting state where there is no person to be jerked about through the relative existence by unchecked passions - can be mistaken for a lack of compassion.

The non-Realized one (whose consciousness is blocked from seeing things the way they truly are) will misperceive the witnessing and the registering of feelings and the witnessing of said feelings as they rise and fall for ... a lack of compassion.

For those addicted to personality-and-passion-driven chaos and control, the urge to jump in and "fix things" and "restore order" (whatever they take "order" to be in a universe that is itself totally chaotic) leads them to the conclusion that the Realized that do not behave in a similar personality-and-passion-driven manner must be "robotic, cold, and uncaring, stripped of the ability to enjoy or relate."

Such misperceptions are just more of the "stuff" of the non-Realized, more of the lies thought to be truth by the non-Realized. Consider the following received last week from a seeker that found what she was looking for by completing the entire "journey" here and now relishing the resulting existence:

She: "Enjoying the relative quiet today. There is reflection at the moment on this 'journey'. Perhaps 3-1/2 years have passed since I turned away from the relative 'entrancements' and asked you directly to teach me. What a change.

"It is as it was with Maharaj: 'To me nothing ever happens. There is something changeless, motionless, immovable, rock-like, unassailable; a solid mass of pure being-consciousness-bliss. I am never out of it. Nothing can take me out of it, no torture, no calamity'.

"Often, there are waves of gratitude for how 'I' washed up on this particular shore – with a teacher and friend who is stabilized in reality".

Does that sound like someone that is devoid of any ability to feel? Be assured, it is the bliss which has now manifested that results in her sharing these teachings out of compassion for those who have not yet found that level of bliss. The reply:

F.: What a delight to read so apt a description of what the relative existence can be like post-Realization. To feel the fullness of the relative existence and the oneness at the same time reveals something most will never understand: why the consciousness, in some cases, speaks ... out of compassion ... out of the willingness to take the bliss and share it if possible.

"Will it usually be possible? No. Does that stop the Realized, compassionate speck from being willing? No. Delightful to see you now relishing this after far too many years of relative experiences that were not what you deserved. Thank you for sharing that."

She: "And thanks for those words. In a way, the 'retreat' in everyday life is a consistent movement to click the 'close' button in everyday life. It is a movement away from drama; a movement away from over-achievement; a movement away from persons who are chaos and concept-filled; a movement away from noise and busy-ness; a movement away from any excesses. The 'retreat' then is simply into this silence – always present, always available; the 'interior' cave of the deep blue shade. Delectable."

Robotic? Unfeeling? Uncaring? Lacking compassion? All charges levied by someone so convinced of his "high level of spirituality" that he is driven to make statements about those he knows not at all. So it is.

"SELLING BOOKS"
It is interesting that those who are most vocal in their complaints about a teacher receiving gifts or donations or funds for materials are the same ones who access free YouTube videos or who access this site with its 1,784 totally free posts - the equivalent of sixty or more free books - and complain about the fact that a teacher is receiving something for teaching.

E-mails arrive often, trying to control what "floyd" does and explaining in a scolding - but totally inaccurate manner - that "neither Maharaj nor Ramana ever took a penny from anyone."

Maharaj
During his early years that involved accumulation, Maharaj supported himself and his family by operating a dozen bidi shops. After Realization, he began taking disciples and continued to do so for thirty years, typically receiving seekers in a morning session or in an afternoon session.

As a result of post-Realization de-accumulation and the fact that visitors gave him food (in addition to flowers and other gifts) Maharaj was able to support himself and his family with those gifts and the proceeds from one bidi shop rather than dozens.

Often the gifts were in such quantities that Maharaj's entire family was fed all day and still had food left over to share with others, and while he might not have "taken a penny," he took thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of food and donations during sessions which some estimate may have totaled nearly 20,000.

Considering the average daily attendance at two sessions per day for thirty years, that would bring the total number of gifts received to over 350,000. But the question is, "WHO (what non-Realized person) would begrudge him or criticize him for accepting gifts that were offered by the grateful who came his way?"

Ramana Maharshi
Ramana may have said that it was he who was to give his gift to others, but others most assuredly bestowed considerable wealth on Ramana, enough that his ashram grew to include a library, hospital, post-office, shrine to his mother, and many other facilities. One of Ramana's relatives, his supervisor of projects, received his instructions from Ramana directly, and Ramana lived a most comfortable relative existence that was supported by gifts - including large monetary gifts - from his devotees. The question is, "WHO (what non-Realized person) would begrudge him or criticize him for accepting gifts that were offered by the grateful who came his way?"

The next question is, "WHO (what non-Realized person) thinks that he should be able to control what happens with "floyd" or with anyone else?" Like the religious fanatic who tells the person in 24 / 7 pain that he cannot hasten his departure from this existence, WHO thinks he has the right to tell people that they should not sell something and that they should not accept a gift if offered?

There have been generous benefactors over the years that have provided part of the means by which other employment could be set aside so that the focus could be on the sharing of these teachings. Others make regular donations on the first of each month. WHO thinks he has the right to control them or "floyd" or anyone else and tell what they cannot give or cannot sell?

This entire relative existence involves one transaction after another, conducted by sellers and buyers around the planet, all working to meet the basic requirements of food and clothing and shelter. WHO thinks he has the right to tell persons that they must stop buying and selling?

Only one trapped in his false roles and the accompanying egotism. Unable to afford a book? Read the free postings. Unable to purchase books that explain the teachings? Watch the free videos on YouTube. There are many. Do not approve of the content of the postings on this site or the various YouTube videos? As Louise suggested, use the "close" button.

Finally, knowing what came about as a result of the teachings of Maharaj and Ramana and a host of other sages whose disciples choose to offer tokens of gratitude, WHO but the most spiritually arrogant would judge them or criticize them for accepting such gifts?

Or WHO, in ignorance, would go the step farther and make the false claim that Maharaj and Ramana never received any gifts? In May of this year, a man in Japan wrote to say how the postings on this blog had "led to his Realization" but then asked ironically:

"Why do you sell your books and services instead of giving them away? Why do you accept donations when the teachings should be offered the way Jesus did, without accepting any gifts at all?" It is doubted that the same man has contacted Barnes & Noble or Amazon and asked why they are selling copies of I AM THAT rather than giving them away.

Interestingly, his question came on the heels of his acknowledgment that there were at that time over 1,500 postings archived and made available on this site for free, no charge required at all. Here, several of the mystery or adventure books that are enjoyed are ordered each month from Amazon. There has never once been an inclination to contact their marketing department and ask why there was a charge for those books which should have been provided for free.

As for Jesus, the man ignored the fact, or was at least unaware of the fact, that five wealthy patrons supported the ministry of Jesus, who also taught the Advaitin teachings during the last years of that manifestation. That complainant also ignored the fact that housing and food and clothing were provided to Jesus by followers so that the teachings could continue.

Moreover, are the Realized realtor, playwright, artist, carpenter, bus driver, restaurateur, government employee, waitress, etc. to provide services for free since they have Realized? Will the man in Japan, claiming to be Realized, now give away that which had formerly been used to meet the basic requirements of his relative existence?

What nonsense. What distortion. What arrogance. Yet so it is.

"CONDUCTING SATSANG"
Similar was the criticism that Advaitins are conducting satsang and should not be doing so. Again, WHO thinks he has the right to tell teachers that they should not conduct satsang and to tell seekers not to attend satsang? What arrogance. What a desire to control.

Here, the teachings are offered by many means. The means that require only time and energy are offered for free. The means that require time and energy and money are offered for a fee.

In conclusion, what drives persons to believe that they are hearing voices from other realms in their heads? Either an amazing degree of arrogance that they are more special than others; or insanity; or a desire to create and support an image of "different from" and "better-than." What drives persons to try to control others? Arrogance, along with such an extreme desire to control others that shades of sociopathy are revealed.

What drives persons to tell others that they should not sell and should not buy or that they should not meet with a teacher? What drives persons to make sweeping generalizations and to claim that a group such as "all Advaitins" have no compassion?

To use the words of Maharaj, "... stupidity, verging on insanity." That, along with extreme narcissism with shades of megalomania, along with mistaking "supposed Realization" for actual Realization, along with the primary and secondary addictions of the human race, namely:

1. the primary addiction: to control, and

2. the secondary addiction: to power (which is sought in order to be able to control).

So it is, yet what a fine means a non-Realized person (who is convinced that he is Realized) provided to demonstrate by his words why the need for these teachings is so widespread, relatively speaking.

The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders offers the non-duality message by way of a mystery-adventure novel, discussing the movement from pain to healing to awakening to peace.
From Dr. R.F. Maley, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Houston: "Floyd Henderson's book, The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders, is a fun read and an interesting mystery, but perhaps more importantly it serves as a vehicle for blending Eastern Philosophy and Native American Spirituality to make an intellectually challenging novel. The book's insights into both relationships and authoritarian conditioning of people in our society make it a must read, tracing the roots of narcissistic, sociopathic and psychopathic behaviors to the very core of the culture. This truly witty and politically-incorrect study of the aggressive nature of 'the American character' offers not only a diagnosis but also a treatment plan, making the book an excellent supplemental reading in courses such as psychology, anthropology, philosophy, sociology and counseling."
