FREEDOM FROM INSTABILITY AND SHIFTING Among other "aides," this series has been using an exchange with Louise, a “South African non-dualist,” in order to provide clarity for seekers that would bring an end to the instability and shifting which marks and mars the relative existence for billions of non-realized humans. The next reply to Louise continues from where we left off: The circumstance you describe is typical among the persons of the planet who “experience” moments of happiness or who enter into a peaceful position of neutrality, only to find that they are once again unhappy or taking “positions” that create disturbances. “Positions” can only be taken by ego-states, by false identities, and will never allow peace to happen consistently. Why? Because before “positions” can be stated in words, they first manifest in the form of “thoughts,” and thoughts are generated by the fictional (and always distorted) “mind” wherein is stored the false belief in all of those assumed identities which take “positions.” Key is the understanding of this pointer: a vital prerequisite for peace to come is stability. The prerequisite for stability - for fixating in a state of happiness or contentment rather than constantly shifting between states of happiness vs. unhappiness and being discontented - is fixation in the no-concept, non-duality Reality (dealing with the THAT-ness) and reality (dealing with the AM-ness). In addition to those relative dynamics already discussed which interrupt peace and stability, there are other factors that should also be considered. When a former ego-state was (a) assumed as an identity and (b) when the memory of that ego-state is recalled and (c) when it believes that it was interfered with or hurt or threatened or brought to an end by the actions of a former co-dependent that was helping to support the illusion of that identity, then peace and stability face another obstacle, namely, archetypal messaging. Prior to realization, “floyd” “experienced” that double challenge to peace and stability. “Husband’s” emoting generated the thought, “She abandoned me.” In the process, “Floyd the Homeowner” seemed to “died”; “Floyd the Family Man” seemed to “died”; “Floyd the Father” seemed to “died”; “Floyd the Lover” seemed to “died”; and if space permitted another dozen or more false identities could be catalogued. The illusion, therefore, was not just that “I” was being killed but that “I” was being killed a dozen times over. What a hopeless and miserable mindset. To compound the perceived pain and “loss” and suffering, an archetypal message triggered another physical and mental and emotional response. To explain: Archetypes are instinctive (often genetically-transferred) roles which exist even prior to the assignment or acceptance of all of the other roles which persons take as the definers of “who they (supposedly) are.” As a result of millions of years of such coding, some of the instinctive roles are the same as culturally-assigned roles, such as “partner,” “father,” “mother,” etc. Archetypes manifest as images which carry dualistic connotations, all rooted in the multi-million-year-totality of human experience. They are all based in what has - and has not - assisted in the survival of the species. Thus … “up” is a “positive” archetype whereas “down” is a “negative” archetype; “dark” is a “negative” archetype while “light” is a “positive” archetype; and “together” is a “positive” archetype while “alone” is a concept stored at a genetic level which carries a “negative” connotation among the sleepwalking masses. When a person said to “floyd,” “I am leaving you,” not only did those words trigger fear and / or anger among the dozens of assumed but false identities that imagined that they were being threatened. Those words also engaged a physical, mental, and emotional component that lies at the inherited and / or programmed core of every human. Most of those components were as ancient as humankind, and they rose from a subconscious (subliminal) level into the (warped) conscious level and sent the message, “You are in immediate danger . . . your very existence really is being threatened; As a result, a “fight” response or a “flight” response (or even a “freeze” response) is triggered. And when identities believe that they are being threatened, neither the flight nor freeze responses are the typical responses. [See the content of the book CASTING LIGHT ON THE DARK SIDE OF RELATIONSHIPS for further discussion of this phenomenon and you’ll understand why 59% of all murders of females in the U.S., and 41% of the murders of all males, happen during a “breakup.” When the programming and archetypal perceptions combine to generate such levels of distortion that one believes she / he is being killed a dozen times over, you can understand why 50% of the time “flight” is not considered as an option and “fight to the death” becomes a typical reaction.] Is it becoming clearer exactly what the non-realized are “up against” in an effort to stabilize in a state of peace and harmony? Is it becoming obvious why the non-realized are constantly shifting between states of happiness or contentment and unhappiness? Is it becoming all the more obvious why past sharers of true wisdom (including those specks of re-purified consciousness which share the pointers that can end human suffering), propose that realization is at the heart of being free of the distortions and illusions that perpetuate such high levels of unhappiness (and even misery and suffering) planet-wide? Do you see now why realized teachers suggest that, when peace and stability disappear, that you should ask, “WHO” (what persona or personas) thinks she / he is being hurt or was hurt? “WHO” thinks he / she was wronged? “WHO” is 'experiencing' the pain and suffering and misery that is being triggered by a memory rooted in distortion? When the “WHO” is seen to be an image (either of the archetypal type or the culturally-assigned type) then peace and stability can return as the focusing on “I am an abandoned husband” or “I am a wronged wife” fades from the (warped) consciousness and the “I AM . . . only” becomes the focus once again. Next, another contributor to unhappiness (and to instability, which assures that periods of happiness or contentment will be interrupted by periods of unhappiness) is a belief in the concept of “time.” That concept plays a major role in generating illusions that result in unhappiness and instability because (1) “linear time” is about division, separation, and the dualistic concepts of “this” being more special than “that” and “this day being better than that one” and “holy days being more important than other ‘regular’ days” and because (2) just as current distortions will be “future memories,” so past distortions are your “current memories.” First, regarding “time.” Consider how time is used to reinforce the dualistic concepts of “different from” and “better than” and “more special than” and “less special than.” For those arising to go to work, 5 AM or 6 AM or 7 AM might be considered a “bad” time when an alarm is heard. Later, “noon” might be “good” if a lunch break is available. 5 PM is “better” if works ends then. “Time” sets persons up to “experience” “up’s” and “down’s” - as well as periods of contentment and discontentment - throughout any “24-hour period”: “Now is not a time that I can be happy. Only certain other times can provide what I need or desire in order to be happy.” Then, those days become weeks in the minds of persons tied to “time” concepts. According to some, therefore, “Mondays” are “bad” but “Wednesdays” are an improvement since they represent “Hump Day” and since the week is considered to be a downhill coast from the midway point. Fridays and Saturdays are “good,” and “Sundays” are “holy” and “more special” than the other six days of the week. If programmed and conditioned with the typical Anglo-Saxon mentality, one day is for rest and relaxing and taking it easy, while six days are for working and not relaxing and not taking it easy. He who is stabilized and who takes it easy - without interruption - is unacceptable or strange in cultures where instability and chaos are “minimized” and “normalized” with such conditioning statements as: “Hey, life is all about ups and downs. Get used to it.” Many modern cultures thus endorse instability and justify their chaos and disorder on an individual basis, on a national basis throughout the year, and on an international basis as well. That will always result in “personal” instability; will result in a nation that is often in disarray; and will result in some international crises and wars, guaranteed. And it will all be considered “normal” and “acceptable” among a conditioned population. The concept of “various months” also generates a sense of differentiation and thus mood instability: “Winters are too cold and dark and dreary, but summers are too hot.” Rather than enjoying uninterrupted stability (no matter what name someone gives to the time of the week or the time of the month or the time of the year) linear time distinctions guarantee a sense of separation and instability and shifting moods. The result is a planet populated with self-absorbed persons who are trapped in “The Goldilocks Syndrome,” so these types of “thoughts” and “words” become commonplace: “This time of year is too hot but that time of year is too cold”; “this partner is too hot but that one was too cold”; that partner was smothering but this other one now is too emotionally unavailable; and “you cooked this egg too hard but the one yesterday was too soft.” Thus comes about the mindset for the Borderline Personality Disorder to manifest, and that disorder will generate constant, major swings between happiness or contentment vs. misery and suffering. Trapped in such differentiation, only “perfection” is acceptable, but the concept of “perfect” - when applied to anything in the relative - is as bogus as all concepts; therefore, no consistent sense of satisfaction or acceptance or neutrality or joy will happen among the non-realized who are trapped in concepts and time distinctions and beliefs about what supposedly constitutes “perfection” and what constitutes “not perfection” as well as Goldilocks-type seeking for a person and for things and for a life that is “just right.” Because “different” days and “different” months are assigned different levels of “goodness” or “badness,” moods can become unstable as a result of nothing more than labeling. Next, the labeling of some days or weeks as “holidays” (“holy days”) takes the instability to new heights as not only are “hours” and “days” given good or bad labels, but such dualistic labels are also applied to “months” and “seasons” and “years.” Even as they proclaim “I love this time of year,” few are aware of how emotionally-intoxicated and completely unstable they become every year during the “holidays,” be those celebrations called Deepawali, Thanksgiving, Ramadan, Advent, Bodhi Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid-al-Adha, New Year’s, Rosh Hashanah, Al-Hijra, or some other “special” event. And how many of those few who might become aware of that annual pattern would be willing to abandon their seasonal going and doing and zooming in order to allow sanity and stability to manifest? How much truth can be involved when some think something is “good” but others think it is “bad”? Consider “Thanksgiving” in the U.S.: most citizens believe that the concept on which the holiday is based is certainly “good”: a “new nation” was founded that is based in Christian doctrine. (“A theocracy here is “good” but a theocracy there is very ‘bad’.”) If the 150,000,000 who were slaughtered in the conquest of “the Americas” had a voice, they might beg to differ about the noble connotation assigned by the masses to the U.S. “Thanksgiving holiday.” Non-Christians and people living on other parts of the globe might have no opinion about the holiday or might consider it nonsense. “Good” . . . “bad” . . . “indifferent”? Where is the stability? Only the realized, aware that it is all conceptual (and therefore all much ado about nothing) are free of being “swayed” by any emotionalism around events dreamed up by men and women in the past. They are also free of any emotionally-intoxicating “memories” of events such as “past holidays” that were better because of “this” or “that” which is now “missing.” Similarly, two billion persons would claim that it is “good” to celebrate a virgin birth during “the Christmas holidays.” Four billion non-Christians who claim affiliation with other religions, however, would consider the holiday to be a celebration of infidels or “wrong believers.” Some dismiss the celebration as one based in pagan-based fiction, Christianity having been the twenty-third religion (not the first) that was based on the belief that “their savior of prophet” was supposedly born of a virgin. Is it clear that the concept of linear time sets the stage for “up’s” and “down’s,” for instability, and for fluctuations between happiness or contentment and unhappiness to happen throughout the year, throughout the months, throughout any given week, throughout any given day, and even throughout any given hour? Add in the physical, mental and intellectual fluctuations that occur throughout any given 30-day time-frame (see “biorhythms” or biological rhythms” or “circadian rhythms which affect sleep, body temperature, hormone secretion, etc.) The result of all of the above factors is a very unstable population planet-wide. Are you beginning to see how multi-faceted the factors are which contribute to instability and to the subsequent shifting from various states of comfort and discomfort, from happiness to unhappiness? Are you seeing that anything that is "multi-" in nature is a fraud and that peace and stability can only happen if fixated in the singularity of the non-dual, no-concept reality of the unicity? It is in abidance as the real and true unicity - which can be understood after abandoning belief in all fictionalized multiplicities - that peace and stability happen consistently throughout the manifestation. Among the realized, there are no beliefs, so a belief in the concept of "time" cannot exist. There is no differentiation by seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, seasons, years, decades, centuries, or millennia. There is only continuity and, for the most part, steadiness. What significance could one possibly give to a man-made concept such as “a season” when one understands that he / she has always been and always shall be? Understand that, and be at peace. To be continued. Please enter into the silence of contemplation. |
