As for non-dual seekers specifically, Maharaj - again - addressed that issue, as discussed in the eBook entitled “Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and His Evolution”:

“Whatever you have tried to understand during your spiritual search will prove false.”

“When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world - everything - is disproved.”

He told later visitors: “Do your normal duties” and “just give up spirituality.”

Why that advice? Because Maharaj was sane enough to know - after having witnessed accurately and objectively for decades - that spirituality does not treat the Ultimate Sickness.

Moreover, spirituality does not treat polyps, cancerous polyps, neuroses, psychoses,  alcoholism or other addictions, planet-wide chaos, or personality disorders, including (but not limited to) these by-products of the Ultimate Sickness: 

OCD, the Depressive Personality Disorder (P.D.), the Histrionic P.D., the Factitious P.D., the Narcissism P.D., the Somatization P.D., the Avoidant P.D., the Borderline P.D.,

the Masochistic P.D., the Schizoid Avoidance P.D., the Schizotypal P.D., the Passive-Aggressive P.D., the Paranoid P.D., the Dependent P.D., the Addictive P.D., 

the Bipolar P.D., the Antisocial / Sociopathic P. D., the Pathological P.D., the Sadistic P.D., the Passive-Aggressive P.D., and Dissociative P.D.

Especially in his later talks, Maharaj offered the proper treatment - the Ultimate Medicine - which had nothing to do with the spirituality that he spoke of early on but which he later advised seekers to “give up.”

That compares to the methods used to treat the mentally ill in early 19th century America when care for the mentally ill was almost non-existent: the afflicted were usually relegated to prisons, almshouses, or inadequate supervision by families. Treatment, if provided, paralleled other medical treatments of the time, including bloodletting and purgatives.

Your granddad has a host of personality defects so we’re going to have to cut him open and drain out some of his blood.” Then, the real kicker: “purgatives!” So it’s like this: “Your granddad also has a host of mental defects, so we’re going to give him double doses of Ex-Lax to treat his mind problems. Then ‘keep coming back’! We’ll keep double-dosing him until he’s sane.”

The key point is that the road to misery and suffering on planet earth is paved with misdiagnoses and, therefore, inappropriate, ineffective, and unsuitable treatments. 

Any competent, all-powerful God that - for whatever unexplainable reason - stood by and let things get as messed up as they are on this planet would surely see how messed up things are and clean up the mess. 

The fact that such is not happening is evidence of the additional fact that the most popular means of trying to treat anything and everything on the planet (namely, being religious and / or spiritual and / or praying or begging a god or gods for relief) is not working.

Whether the problem deals with addiction, emotional illness, personality disorders and neuroses and psychoses, trouble with “relationships,” health problems, family crises, financial predicaments, physical pain, endless misery and suffering, grief, guilt, and resentment, the problems are ultimately rooted in body issues, mind issues, and / or personality issues. 

And the most serious body issues, mind issues, and / or personality issues are not going to go away by praying to a myth-and-superstition-based entity.

Because all is matter-energy, and because matter-energy can neither be destroyed nor created, then there is no Creator. And if there is no creator or Creator or Creator-God, then there is also no Sustainer-God or Destroyer-God either. 

For five thousand years, people have just made up all that “stuff” as they went along. (When the author of the book discussed earlier explained to a man that he had no faith in the validity of religious concepts, he was advised, “Why don’t you choose your own conception of God?”) See? “Just make it up. Just dream up a concept. Pick a version you like.”

Maharaj explained that the only thing that has been “created” in this regard is the conception of a God, and conceptions are just “dreamed up things.” Thus, he said: 

“First of all you identify something as being good or bad for yourself. Then, in an effort to acquire good or to get rid of the bad, you have invented a God. Then you worship such a God and . . . you pray to that God for something good to happen to you.”

As a result, humans over the ages have prayed to a conceptualized god or gods but have also wished upon a star or at a wishing well; have put faith in a four-leaf clover or a rabbit’s foot;

have felt that hanging a horseshoe affixed over a door will protect those entering; have believed that if garlic is hung inside a home that it will provide protection against evil spirits; ad infinitum.

But Maharaj made clear that “spirituality” has been proven meaningless:

Again, “When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world - everything - is disproved.” 

When a visitor said, “The scriptures say that we have our karma and our sins and that is why we are here,” Maharaj answered: “That is for the ignorant masses.” 

When the doctors misdiagnosed the internal state of “floyd’s body” - failing to realize that the observable symptoms were a result of benign, pre-cancerous, and cancerous polyps - then all that they recommended prior to a proper diagnosis were exactly the same as spirituality and holy books and holy concepts trying to treat mental illness, namely, “of no use.” 

One doctor defended the failure of the medical community to me, saying that, “In the long run, you had to go through all of that and find out what did not work and eliminate other possibilities before the stage was set to come up with a proper diagnosis.” 

That is not unlike the addict who tells another, “We had to do everything we did in order to get where we finally got to so we could be given the proper treatment.” 

BS. 

Treatment that is based in “a process of elimination” is not treatment. When antibiotics were prescribed by a doctor for me as a treatment for what was actually polyps, that was not a treatment.

When antacids were prescribed as a treatment for what was actually polyps, that was not a treatment. When Imodium, Pepto-Bismol, and Kaopectate were prescribed as a treatment for what was actually polyps, that was not a treatment. 

And the same kind of misfires apply when any form of the Ultimate Medicine tries to treat the mental aspect of the Ultimate Sickness without using the proven “sick-mind-treatment methods” employed by competent therapists.

Snake oil salesmen of days gone by sold a product that they claimed was a single cure-all: “No need to buy a variety of products or undergo a variety of medical procedures when you can buy one product that will wipe out anything and everything that ails you.” 

There is a modern version of the snake-oil salesmen that is alive and doing well, financially. The modern snake-oil salesmen are also presenting a supposed cure-all that could be called “Fix-It-All-Dogma” or “The-All-In-One-Spiritual-Fixer-Upper.” 

But not unlike the medical community’s efforts to address a polyp problem with antibiotics, antacids, Imodium, Pepto-Bismol, and Kaopectate, people are reaching into their grab-bags of dogmatic and spiritual remedies and pulling out that which Maharaj made clear is “of no use.”

Again, when dogma or spiritual exercises are prescribed as a treatment for addiction, emotional illness, personality disorders and neuroses and psychoses, trouble with “relationships,” health problems, family crises, financial predicaments, physical pain, endless misery and suffering, grief, guilt, resentment, body issues, mind issues, and / or personality issues, that is not a treatment at all. 

As with the process the doctors used here, improper treatment plans only prolong misery and suffering and provide a false sense of hope that extends the pain and that prevents a discovery of what is really needed to address any given issue. 

And again, that is why Maharaj made clear that “the great noble meaning of spirituality . . . has been disproved” and why he asserted that religious and spiritual concepts and scriptures and stories are “of no use.”

THE EXPLANATION

If looked at as nouns, they point to illusions and are, therefore, a total waste of time to even discuss; if looked at as verbs which are resulting in certain sane but rare behaviors among humanity, then they are worthy of some attention during the relative existence.

Meaning? There are members of certain groups who say things such as "My concept of god in the past was of a weak god, an absentee god, A Santa Claus-type god, a mean, punishing, vindictive god, etc. Today, I am in close contact with a loving and caring god whom I worship and praise and glorify and give thanks to."

The reply to that usually goes like this: "If you are in contact with a god that wants to be worshipped and praised and glorified, then you're dealing with someone like yourself - a narcissist - and hanging out with narcissists will never bring an end to your narcissism (that narcissism evidenced by the fact that you think you are "godly").

Next, in the phrase 'loving and caring god,' any supposed god that truly had her or his act together would tell you that the totally irrelevant part of that phrase is 'god' and that the only part that is relevant is the "loving and caring" part.

"That is, a non-narcissistic their god / their goddess would say, "I care not an iota about being worshipped and praised and glorified by you or anyone else. How arrogant and insecure and needy would I have to be to want that? Forget the man-made, dreamed up noun 'god' and focus on the 'god as a verb' understanding and then go forth and let loving and caring be verbs - not adjectives - and let them generate the act of love and the act of caring and let those actions manifest through you." 

Yeshu'a (Jesus) and Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis were spot on:

"No one shall ever see 'the kingdom of heaven.' It is within"

and 

"Heaven and earth shall fade away."

--Yeshu'a (Jesus)

and 

"Heaven and hell are not geographic places

but are states of mind, nothing more than

concepts dreamed up by men."

--Pope John Paul II 

"There is no hell."

--Pope Francis, the current pope

in an interview with journalist Eugenio Scalfari,

a writer used by the Pope to issue off the record

teachings which become a part of the Papal Magisterium.

[That said, would that the popes who have shown the courage to reject a core concept of their dogma - namely, "hell" - would find the additional courage required to question the very existence of their institution in light of the centuries-long cover-up of their history of raping children and in light of the mental and emotional and psychological scarring of billions of their members past and present.

And that need for courage also applies as questions need to be asked about why so many other sky cults are still being supported and allowed to continue to exist as well. When certain types of programming and conditioning have been shown to blind the masses, they should end. Will they? Not likely. Why?

Because what the masses think and say and do is most influenced by the international crime families which hold sway over the masses as criminals conduct their planet-wide operations. What are the major international crime families and which are the most influential and have the largest memberships?

The Mafia / La Cosa Nostra; the Catholic Church (with it 1.2 billion followers) whose Vatican Bank worked for decades with the Mafia while laundering mob earnings (for a 15% all-profit charge by the Bank); Protestant and Evangelical Churches (with over 1.2 billion followers) like the one I was raised in where the youth director molested and sexually assaulted young girls; big business which has long created environments in which people have been abused; powerful political bodies like the U.S. Congress, etc., etc., etc.)

With all of those crime families, neither the followers nor the leadership ever voluntarily step down or shut down their criminal activities. Be they gangs, organized crime families, religions, big business, politicians, etc., they all want control and they all want power and they all want money, and nothing internal will interfere with the driving forces at play.

The masses must demand that all those in charge must step down and their groups and institutions must shut down, and there's the real problem because the continuation of their crimes are enabled not as much by the people running such crime organizations as they are enabled by the masses of people who - wanting some perceived "payoff" - remain involved with them and give them money and support them and aid and abet the continued existence of those criminal enterprises and thus facilitate the ability of church criminals and political criminals and other types of criminals to continue to commit their crimes.]
