[Continued from yesterday’s post]
From a site visitor: “You wrote: ‘But once Realization happens, the ‘I Am’ is seen for its worthlessness.’ If you’re saying the consciousness is worthless, I don’t get that at all.”
F.: The transcendent consciousness gives no credibility to concepts or ideas or attitudes. It understands the unicity; conversely, the conceptual consciousness erroneously accepts beliefs and takes the perceived multiplicity to be real. The transcendent consciousness, being free of delusion and illusion, allows for the abidance as the Absolute. Then, even the concepts offered by Advaitans will have been transcended. Years and years of the accumulated mental and emotional and spiritual garbage of the culture can be tossed…and tossed without concern, without dread, without any sense of loss. Later, it will be realized that it wasn’t even tossed because there is no “tosser.” The garbage actually just faded away after its value was finally questioned and seen to be worthless as a result of its senseless content. Yet note how much the ego-defense mechanism of arrogance (which protects the illusory “I”) hates any suggestion that would devalue all of the knowledge—all of the learned ignorance—that has accumulated as a “mind” over a lifetime.
Persons write to share the titles of all of the books that they have accumulated in their library…books written by those on the speaking circuit, by those interviewed on television, or by those who fill auditoriums and who conduct weekend seminars. So what? They list the books they own as if they’re writing their “spiritual resumé,” a document being sent out to impress some prospective….what? Those readers may now know what someone else knows, but the readers still do not know what they themSelves have always known but have forgotten. And the more that their consciousness is polluted with what others claim to know, the less likely they will ever pause to contemplate in the silence what they have always known. Did I read all those books? Yes. Did they provide enlightenment? No. Did they hinder the Realization? Yes. Why? Each author or speaker picks a part of the teachings that will provide a clever sound-bite or title and then focuses on one part of the teachings rather than leading protégés to Full Realization. It all becomes a smokescreen that farther inhibits the seeing of the snake for the rope that it is: “NOW” has no power, and only those attached to ego and ego-states want power now; there is nothing “sacred”—a term steeped in duality—much less a “sacred self” or “sacred contracts”; there are no spiritual laws…only laws dreamed up by controlling men who want power to dictate to the masses or to show publicly how wise or spiritual they are. And they do all that after having being advised by their original teacher that none of this can be taught publicly, en masse. All preoccupation with the nonsense of conceptual consciousness which focuses on one part of the teachings in outer resources will delay your occupation with that which can be accessed only via the inner resource. Value "your" contaminated consciousness and you will be attracted to "their" contaminated consciousness and you will then attach firmly to its bastardized content. The house cannot begin to be refreshed until you take out all of the garbage.
Such is the sane course of action involving garbage. Only the arrogance of ego-states, which are revealed via the talk generated by conceptualized consciousness, would inspire efforts to try to give value and meaning to the garbage of cultures and dogma and movements. The consideration is that you let fade away all of the garbage—all of the concepts and beliefs and learned ignorance—and be free of the conceptual consciousness; then You’ll witness the AS IF living as it happens. Yet that AS IF living can happen only after the body and “mind” (and the last of any assumed roles) all fade away. Therein lies the challenge since the body and mind and personality are the very illusions that take the consciousness to be so worthwhile.
So what must a protégé be alert to as he listens to consciousness speak? He must develop a detector that can differentiate between (a) that which emanates from transcendent consciousness as opposed to (b) what is heard when conceptual consciousness speaks. Conceptual consciousness is easily recognizable because its talk is peppered with concepts (all of which are dualistic and all of which are dreamed up by men) including “God,” “noble birth,” “sacred,” “praiseworthy humans,” “patriotism,” “Brahman,” “reward,” “good,” “best,” “hallowed ground,” “reverent oaths,” “a flag that is due respect,” “great,” “famous,” “them,” “us,” “wise men,” “awful,” “loyalist,” “birth,” “creation of babies,” “life after life,” “hell,” “heaven,” “guru,” and “holy.” That which is real cannot be named, so that which is named cannot be real, and no concept is more steeped in the duality of conceptual consciousness than the concept “holy.” Do you know why? Please enter the silence of contemplation. [Tomorrow: The Conclusion]
