DE-AWESOME-FYING NON-DUAL TERMINOLOGY
More on the rationale for this series:
1. Among the 7+ billion non-realized persons on planet earth, 97% reported in a survey that they limit their “search area” to the space beneath the roof a church or basilica or cathedral or temple or the meeting room of a “spiritual group” or a wat or mosque or synagogue or gurdwara. Actually, they seldom seek because they are convinced that they have found. They are taught to “question nothing” and to “accept with blind faith” whatever they are taught.
2. The same applies to the millions supposedly seeking in particular rooms or a loft or a home or a borrowed gathering space or via a particular ideology, cult, philosophy, or theory.
3. Of those seeking via a system of pointers which included the invitation to “question everything,” few question it all.
4. Here, “non-dualists” are encouraged to “question it all” and then an expanded caveat is added: “even question every non-dual pointer you’ve ever heard or read.”
5. Long before Maharaj shared pointers on the bogus beliefs regarding body and mind and personality identification; and long before he advised seekers to abandon their religious and spiritual role-playing; and long before he advised them to give up their spiritual workaholism and merely abide naturally, he laid the groundwork for all the pointers to come by saying, “Question everything.”
He meant with those words that every belief accumulated by listening to others and by reading the words of others and by going to gatherings (where those he derided as “Big Name Teachers” were collecting millions of dollars a year from seekers) must be questioned.
6. There have been millions of religious and spiritual and philosophical and ideological and Eastern and, yes, even non-dual concepts / beliefs which billions of humans have taken to be “awesome.”
In addition to “awesome,” so many simple and basic parts of the non-dual understanding have been “elevated in status” in a most supercilious, pompous fashion, reporting that various elements of the message are “noble,” “other-worldly,” “extraordinary,” “exceptional,” “distinctive,” and “exclusive.” None of them were, and none of them are.
7. This series is offering a different perspective about those concepts / beliefs / pointers / whatever.
So far in this series, it has been shown that - far from being “awesome concepts or teachings” - there is actually no validity or logic at all to such concepts or teachings as . . .

WHO-ness and / or who-ness
and
“SELF-Actualization”
and
“SELF-Realization”
and
“self-realization” (unless referring to the fact that one has realized that all assigned or assumed selves are illusions as are all assumed Selves as well)
and
liberation
and
enlightenment, awakening, and spiritual awakening,
and
“the Spiritual Malady”
and
higher consciousness
and
noble truths
and
how to know God
and
finding your life’s purpose
and
how to find peace of mind
and, relatedly,
mindfulness
and
becoming who you are
and
having an ageless body and timeless mind
and
karma
and
“Infinite Self” and “Supreme Self” and “Eternal Self.”
Today, the discussion moves to . . .
BIRTH-DEATH-REBIRTH CYCLES
Yesterday, this was offered, and the points are relevant to today’s topic as well:
Regular visitors to the site understand that “a human” or a supposed “person” is actually just a “composite unity” made up of elemental plant food body which circulates air and conscious-energy (“consciousness”).
When mahasamadhi is taken, the elements return to the vast universal pool of elements, the air returns to the vast universal pool of air, and the conscious-energy returns to the vast pool of conscious-energy.
Once that is understood, then it is quite clear that after the components of a composite unity “come apart” (see the Second Law of Thermodynamics)
and
after they move far apart during the process of returning to their various pools then there is not the slightest possibility that those elements and quantities of conscious-energy can ever “re-group” or be combined again in any manner whatsoever.
The wise understand that immediately and understand that no entity can exist post-manifestation. Only those who are enslaved in magical thinking can dream up some scenario whereby a Power or a God exists and can bring all those parts together again and to last infinitely, eternally, and supremely.
This, too, is also relevant to today’s discussion:
Maharaj: "There is no question of elevating to a higher level. Here it is only a question of understanding."
What Maharaj had to say about reincarnation depended on which of the three versions of the Ultimate Medicine he was offering at the time.
Initially, when he was being influenced by the belief systems of his Hindu visitors, he gave lip service to reincarnation, but Maharaj would not have agreed - if being totally honest – with his contemporary Sri Ramana Maharshi who said:
“Reincarnation exists only so long as there is ignorance. There is really no reincarnation at all, either now or before. Nor will there be any hereafter. This is the truth.”
Maharaj: “Rebirth is the opinion of 'sages.' The knowledge based upon opinions is intellectual knowledge. It is illusory”
and
“The scriptures say that you have had an infinite number of births. These are only concepts.”
Questioner: “We were told about
karma and reincarnation, evolution and Yoga, masters and disciples. What are we
to do with all this knowledge?”
“Maharaj: Leave it all behind you. Forget it. Go forth, unburdened with ideas
and beliefs. Abandon all verbal structures, all relative truth, all tangible
objectives.”
Another questioner:
Q: “You must believe in having lived before.”
M: “The scriptures say so, but I know nothing about it.”
[He would say on another occasion: “I have no faith in anything which has ever been told, not even what has been told by the Vedas. Only my own experience.”]
He said: “I know myself as I am; as I appeared or will appear is not within my experience. It is not that I do not remember. In fact there is nothing to remember. Reincarnation implies a reincarnating self. There is no such thing.”
Later, Maharaj said: “The worry about death does not affect me at all. Why are you worried about reincarnation? Just experience whatever is happening to you now.”
“I was asked why I previously told some people that many births are needed before realisation can happen. I have to tell such stories to ignorant people.”
[He said on another occasion: “Reincarnation is a concept for the ignorant masses.”]
“When a person describes a memory of his last birth, I ask him whether he remembers who his parents were, animals or human beings? You are only talking about your dream. At present you can say who your parents are, but do you know who they were during your last birth? If you cannot remember anything, then just say it is all over and finished. It is just a dream; forget about it.”
“What others say about how rebirth is determined by the thoughts you have when you are dying is mere hearsay.”
“This world has existed for millions of years. Male and female, Purusha and Prakriti, have created so many dynasties. From which background have you come to his present form? Did you come from your father's father or your mother's mother?”
“From the time of the first couple ever created, which birth is this? Can you go back and find out? Why carry that tension around with you when you cannot really know or remember any of it? Don't bother about it.”
Maharaj: “When the birth is disproved, the great noble meaning of spirituality and the meaning of this world—everything—is disproved.”
He said: “My true state, which is whole, undifferentiated, is beyond birth and death. I am never bound by my body and mind. I am limitless.”
