DE-AWESOME-FYING NON-DUAL TERMINOLOGY
More on the rationale for this series:
1. Among the 7+ billion non-realized persons on planet earth, 97% reported in a survey that they limit their “search area” to the space beneath the roof a church or basilica or cathedral or temple or the meeting room of a “spiritual group” or a wat or mosque or synagogue or gurdwara. Actually, they seldom seek because they are convinced that they have found. They are taught to “question nothing” and to “accept with blind faith” whatever they are taught.
2. The same applies to the millions supposedly seeking in particular rooms or a loft or a home or a borrowed gathering space or via a particular ideology, cult, philosophy, or theory.
3. Of those seeking via a system of pointers which included the invitation to “question everything,” few question it all.
4. Here, “non-dualists” are encouraged to “question it all” and then an expanded caveat is added: “even question every non-dual pointer you’ve ever heard or read.”
5. Long before Maharaj shared pointers on the bogus beliefs regarding body and mind and personality identification; and long before he advised seekers to abandon their religious and spiritual role-playing; and long before he advised them to give up their spiritual workaholism and merely abide naturally, he laid the groundwork for all the pointers to come by saying, “Question everything.”
He meant with those words that every belief accumulated by listening to others and by reading the words of others and by going to gatherings (where those he derided as “Big Name Teachers” were collecting millions of dollars a year from seekers) must be questioned.
6. There have been millions of religious and spiritual and philosophical and ideological and Eastern and, yes, even non-dual concepts / beliefs which billions of humans have taken to be “awesome.”
In addition to “awesome,” so many simple and basic parts of the non-dual understanding have been “elevated in status” in a most supercilious, pompous fashion, reporting that various elements of the message are “noble,” “other-worldly,” “extraordinary,” “exceptional,” “distinctive,” and “exclusive.” None of them were, and none of them are.
7. This series is offering a different perspective about those concepts / beliefs / pointers / whatever.
So far in this series, it has been shown that - far from being “awesome concepts or teachings” - there is actually no validity or logic at all to such concepts or teachings as . . .
continuity
and
WHO-ness and / or who-ness
and
“SELF-Actualization”
and
“SELF-Realization”
and
“self-realization” (unless referring to the fact that one has realized that all assigned or assumed selves are illusions as are all assumed Selves as well)
and
liberation
and
enlightenment, awakening, and spiritual awakening,
and
“the Spiritual Malady”
and
higher consciousness
and
noble truths
and
how to know God
and
finding your life’s purpose
and
how to find peace of mind
and, relatedly,
mindfulness
and
becoming who you are
and
having an ageless body and timeless mind
and
karma
and
“Infinite Self” and “Supreme Self” and “Eternal Self”
and
birth-death-rebirth cycles.
Today, the discussion moves to . . .
“THE UNIVERSE”
Maharaj explained that most seekers will never realize. His first estimate after working with a host of seekers was that “only one in 100,000 will ever get this understanding.”
His second estimate after working with more and more seekers was that “only one in 1,000,000 will ever get this understanding.”
Nearer to the end of his work after having observed an untold number of seekers, he estimated that “only 1 in 10,000,000 will get this understanding.”
He pointed out that most seekers never move beyond the “kindergarten level of spirituality” but that they were erroneously convinced that they were fully realized, saying:
“There are so many who take the dawn for the noon, a momentary experience for full realisation and destroy even the little they gain by excess of pride”
and
Most “stand in the dim light of the dawn while thinking that they are being bathed in the full light of the noonday sun.”
And those are among the type who - if you don’t move away from them - will pontificate to you about exactly the way things are and who will never use phrases such as, “I’m not sure about that” or “That I don’t know.”
That is true for religious persons and spiritual persons and “non-dualists” and politicians and those representing big business, etc., etc., etc.
Christians all my life have answered challenges and questions I raised with the reply, “It’s that way because God is in charge of everything that happens so it’s obviously what he wants and it’s part of "His Grand Divine Overall Plan”;
or,
if they did not have even the slightest clue about how to respond to me (for example, regarding the abuse or murder of children, especially in Christians churches and cults, or regarding diseases and illness and pain and suffering among humans around the globe) they go with their back up, cover statement: “God works in mysterious ways and we can’t understand everything he does and why he does it.”
Self-identified “religious persons” and “spiritual persons” never miss an opportunity to use a relative tragedy to reinforce their beliefs about “non-relative things,” so when some religious fanatics flew airplanes into the Twin Towers in New York, the Christian minister Jerry Falwell said the cause was the fact that God was upset by the proliferation of "pagans, abortionists, feminists, gays and lesbians in the U.S."
Christian minister Pat Robertson adumbrated the view, agreeing that the cause of the World Trade Center Towers being knocked down was . . . "homosexuals, abortion-rights supporters, and liberal civil-rights activists," all of whom displease God.
When it came time for the Dalai Lama to speak about Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans in 2005, he confidently and self-assuredly explained that the hurricane struck the city of New Orleans because of the accumulation of the negative-karma of the people there.
See, all of those religious and spiritual types have just got to come up with an answer, even if they have to pull one of out of their wazoos.
What the Dalai Lama was really saying is that “I don’t understand science or I choose to ignore science in order to push the tenets of Buddhism every chance I get.”
What he was also saying was that he did not have a clue about the actual reason that hurricanes form and why they follow the paths which they follow. He was saying too that “I don’t have a clue about how the path of hurricanes are influenced by oceanic temperatures, by the earth’s rotation, by global torque which accelerates a hurricane’s movement toward the pole of the hemisphere where it forms and by other weather systems which can also influence the course which hurricanes take.”
And the real message that all of those types above are sending subconsciously to you is this:
“You should understand - if you’re going to listen to all my BS - is that everything I say is based in the magical thinking patterns stored in my ignorance-filled mind, placed there by ignorance-based dogma or some philosophy or some ideology or by my spiritual teachers who taught from their ‘special books’.”
For those who would project the image that they have reached the highest plane and are now free of all influence by dogma, ideology, etc., they love to speak about what they claim is the controller of all causes and effects, namely, “The Universe” or “The Power of the Universe.”
Per the beliefs of those types, "The Universe" (in addition to what happens therein as a result of its natural order of chaos and its exploding parts and zooming parts and crashing parts and burning parts and blowing up parts and ignitions and discharges and blasts and bangs) evidently has time to also focus in particular on some “supposedly special humans on one planet in particular.”
Evidently the vast, ever-changing universe is primarily “interested in” the day-to-day intricacies of each human and their puny lives. (But how could a mostly empty-space universe be interested in anything?)
And where are those humans with whom "The Universe" is especially preoccupied presently abiding in the vast, ever-expanding universe?
In the vast, expanding space known as the universe, humans reside on a small, rocky, tiny speck called planet earth, a minute, diminutive, undersized, insignificant part of an isolated, indistinct, minor solar system in an arm of one spiral of a galaxy called “The Milky Way.”
[Nevermind that "The Milky Way galaxy" is just one of two trillion or more other galaxies which exist within the same universe.]
Yet there are those who are so narcissistic and self-absorbed and so desirous of control and power that they believe that
the speck they are
on the speck of a rock they live on
in the speck of a galaxy in a vast universe
is a source of external greatness and power and control which pays especial attention to them and their desires and their concepts so that they can put whatever they want out into "The Universe" (but by what means?) and that universe will hear them (but by what means?) and will fulfill their (almost-always) selfish desires.
“The Universe” for many nowadays is the perfect, go-to, generic tool for explaining what humans who refuse to say “I don’t know” can use to explain everything;
is the perfect, go-to, generic tool for humans who don’t have a lucky horseshoe or lucky rabbit’s foot or lucky four-leaf clover;
and
is the perfect, go-to, generic tool for humans who have a million-item bucket list.
Of course transitioning to that nonsensical belief in a universe which responds to their every whim is easy for those who had earlier bought into the notion that there are other-world Powers which are human-like (God or gods and goddesses).
After that kind of thinking, then those types who believe that they have elevated to some higher plane (even above the plane of God or god or goddess) can find it easy to buy into the notion of a non-human-like universe that can do all of the things that God or gods and goddesses were thought to be capable of.
Additionally, the nonsense of the belief in karma is tied into the belief that the universe is indeed some mighty source of power and control. How is the belief in an all-powerful, all-knowing “universe” which involves itself in the silly comings and goings of silly humans linked to the belief in the concept of karma?
Well, if records were being kept on the humans in New Orleans who were devastated because of their accumulated negative karmic energy, then it must be asked: "Where and by whom were the records on their actions being recorded and stored?"
Many believe: "Well, in the universe and by the universe, of course."
So, somewhere “out there,” there must surely be “The Great Karmic Accountant in the Sky” who is witnessing every action taken by every human on earth and judging each action and then cataloguing it in each person’s asset column or liability column.
That information will supposedly be re-calculated regularly to determine and update every human's karmic energy state as positive or negative and that total must be ready and waiting for any and every event, including . . .
hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, droughts, planes being flown into twin towers, the sinking of the Titanic, the slaughter of the Jews and homosexuals and mentally ill and physically deformed enemies of the Nazi state, the wars started by humans for thousands of years, Covid-19, you name it.
Wow. Can you imagine how much work goes into tabulating every person’s karmic energy and having the up-to-the-minute status ready for “The Universe” to use when it comes time to dole out rewards and punishments now, not later?
Whew. What a system. And what an absolutely nonsensical concept to believe in, that one can “put something out into The Universe" and something desired will come back.
Be it “The Secret” or “Sacred Contracts” or the tracking of one’s “Reincarnation Status” or be it any other belief based in magical, mythical thinking, person’s are willing to allow their lives to be sucked into the nonsense of spiritual workaholism and thereby miss out on all of the joys and pleasures which the AM-ness can provide now; instead, they will be driven to spend “this life” working and waiting for “the next life” (which is one of the biggest available examples of nonsense ever).
Meanwhile,
men will continue to beat women with a stick if they accidentally flash an ankle
in public so that those men can end up in “The Great Mideastern Brothel in the Sky” with 72 virgins and "x" number of whores band wives for the men. [As for "the women's rewards?" Sorry about that.]
And many Christians are currently missing out on all sorts of earthly pleasure to earn the right to enjoy the heavenly pleasures of singing praises to “The Big Man in the Sky Sitting on a Throne” and walking about on streets made of gold.
[For more on that, read about a mustard seed and a pearl in their holy book.]
