DE-AWESOME-FYING NON-DUAL TERMINOLOGY
The Rationale:
There have been millions of religious and spiritual and philosophical and ideological and Eastern and, yes, even non-dual concepts / beliefs which billions of humans have taken to be “awesome.” None of them were, and none of them are.
This series is offering a different perspective about those concepts / beliefs / pointers / whatever.
In the book entitled William Shakespeare the Advaitin evidence is offered of how “tuned in” he was to the non-dual message.
One of his plays written in the late
1500’s included themes dealing with love, confusion, and
the theme of “nothing” itself.
Its title, Much Ado About Nothing and the theme of confusion, are both relevant
to the pointers being offered about the current state of the non-dual message (which is often not a non-dual message at all).
It may well be that the only pointer Maharaj offered more than those dealing with the toll of personality identification is this one:
“It’s all so simple!”
He hammered that pointer home time and again over the decades during which he shared non-dual pointers. He constantly encouraged seekers to stop making the non-dual message more complicated and confused than it already was.
Per Wikipedia, The K.I.S.S. principle (an acronym for “keep it simple, stupid,”) is a design principle referenced by the U.S. Navy in 1960. The K.I.S.S. principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore, simplicity should be a key goal in design, and unnecessary complexity should be avoided. The phrase has been associated with aircraft engineer Kelly Johnson.
But long before 1960, Maharaj was offering the message of K.I.S.S. to his visitors. And long before Maharaj was offering that principle for consideration in India, Shakespeare was offering the same principle in England.
And now, that principle is being offered here for consideration. The non-dual message has been bastardized by those who have taken a simple understanding (a simple design principle) and made it complicated, ignoring the advice that unnecessary complexity should be avoided.
In the process of complicating and confusing what should be a simple, uncomplicated, “down to earth” message, namely that . . .
(1) the problems of humankind are centered in the complicated, nonsense-filled human mind with its warped beliefs which are passed down from generation to generation by warped programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing, and indoctrination
and that
(2) the call from the wise to those that are seeking a less-complicated, less-confused relative existence which can be marked more by contentment rather than by anxiety and anger and fighting can come about quite simply by seeing that the warped beliefs stored in the mind need to be flushed away.
So, to continue:
Thus far, it has been shown that - far from being “awesome concepts or teachings” - there is actually no validity or logic at all to such concepts or teachings which have been made far more complicated than they should have ever been made, including the following:
continuity;
WHO-NESS and / or who-ness;
“SELF-Actualization”;
“SELF-Realization”;
“self-realization” (unless referring to the fact that one has realized that all assigned or assumed selves are illusions as are all assumed Selves as well)
and
liberation
and
enlightenment, awakening, and spiritual awakening.
Today’s discussion will deal with the concept of
THE TRUE SELF
The term “The True Self,” when used solely for the sake of discussion to point to the energy / matter which existed eight days prior to conception, (and actually for eternity before conception) could be justified to some degree except that it has misled persons to believe in some sort of pre-conception Self or Character or Identity or Individualized Being as well as some very special / Special / Supreme / Infinite Self post-manifestation.
And that belief, in turn, has giving rise to all sorts of nonsensical, dualistic beliefs such as “heaven and hell,” “karma and reincarnation,” “gods and goddesses,” “eternal rewards and punishments,” and various kinds of eternal life awaiting a post-mahasamadhi composite unity.
Therefore, it is to be seen that “The True Self” is a self-contradictory, Self-contradictory term because “self” and Self” are both illusions, delusions, false impressions, fantasies, deceptions, and ideas dreamed up by ignorantly-misinformed or wisely-manipulative persons.
One may as well speak of any of the oxymorons which have arisen from the fiction-generating minds of the masses. To speak of “A True Self” is like speaking of . . .
“jumbo shrimp”
“military intelligence”
“bittersweet”
“extraordinary”
“supernatural”
“negative growth”
“non-dairy creamer”
“occupied space”
“old news”
“one-man band”
“civil war”
“modern history”
“benevolent despot”
“objective opinion”
“conventional wisdom”
“reality show”
“free will”
“half empty”
“ice water”
“truly false”
and
“virtual reality,” to name but a few.
Either
there is a pre-conception self-identity or Self-Identity
and
an identity or multiple identities lasting throughout an existence
and
a post-manifestation Identity (be it of the “Supreme” or “Infinite” or “Eternal” or “Highest” or “Ultimate” variety)
or . . . .
. . . . there is no identity and there is no Identity and there never has been and there never will be.
Persons might look at a brick and be certain that they know exactly what they are looking at; but look at the brick with the aid of an electron microscope and it will be seen that at the core of what is misidentified by humans as “a brick” is actually a swirling mass of sub-atomic particles (energy / matter).
Thus, the most that can be said accurately is this: what has always been, and is, and forever shall be is energy / matter because neither of those can be created nor destroyed. They can cycle under certain circumstances.
Talk about keeping it simple.
Again, the invitation is to see that a simple message has been needlessly complicated and bastardized by persons who have attached “awesome,” “noble,” “other-worldly,” “extraordinary,” “exceptional,” “distinctive,” and “exclusive” status to key parts of a formerly-simple message / understanding.
The invitation is to focus on the simple message about the source of humankind’s problems and then find the simple solution to those problems which has been pointed to by the wise throughout the ages
rather than
joining in with those cursed with their anal (overly-analytical minds) which are inspiring the playing of psychological games and machinations which are generated by a nonsense-filled, suffering-inducing mind under stress over what amounts to nothing more than all-relative issues.
What is generated by overly-analytical minds? A concern with much ado about nothing. To be truly free . . . K.I.S.S.
