I AM THAT vs. “This Is Who I Think I Am”
[Continued from yesterday]
The question “Do you know who you’re talking to?” literally oozes with the arrogance that is inspired by the egotism that always accompanies the assumption of an ego-state.
Maharaj made the point that “arrogance pollutes.” The history of conflict - whether it involves one specific person or persons or cities or states or countries is always rooted in “(false) self-identification” and “(false) self-conflict” first.
The assumption of an ego-state as an identity not only separates persons from
an awareness of “who” / what they truly are, but such separation from awareness
also prevents an understanding of the unicity. Failure to understand the
unicity then blocks any chance to know Real Love, and being blocked from
knowing Real Love, the door is opened to knowing “hate.”
“Hate,” therefore, is rooted in identification with self, in separation from an awareness of Self, in a sense of separation from “others,” and in the arrogance and egotism of assuming that hierarchies are real and that one's assumed place “at the top” is real. On The Advaita Vedanta Quote Site,
the following pointer was offered for consideration in March of 2007:
Ego is believing that there’s a vast multiplicity arranged in a hierarchy and that you’re the pinnacle; humility is knowing that you’re nothing, no-thing; Love is knowing that you are everything.
How can that be? It can be by virtue of the fact that all living things share a commonality of their foundational, elemental composition; a commonality of conscious-energy; and a commonality of needing oxygen (with only one exception).
[Almost every living thing, including humans, needs oxygen to survive with only one exception so far having been found by scientists.
A tiny parasite called Henneguya salminicola is the first known multicellular “animal” that can survive without oxygen, having no mitochondrial DNA.
All other plants and animals take in oxygen from their surroundings in order to release energy. Underwater plants and animals cannot use the oxygen in air; instead, they use oxygen dissolved in water.
The non-dual understanding is what makes possible the additional understanding of “oneness.”]
“Hatred” - that is, the sense of separation which results in the absence of understanding the oneness and in the presence of egotism and arrogance - can manifest as hatred involving different religions; as hatred involving different sects or denominations;
as hatred involving different races; as hatred involving different economic systems; as hatred involving different forms of government; as hatred involving different political parties; as hatred rooted in ideologies, ad infinitum.
Yet what is common to all manifestations of hatred is the concept of “different,” and the concept of “different” - along with all ideas and concepts and beliefs that foster separation and conflict - is a product of the polluted “mind” which will always generate disharmony.
On 9/11 in the U.S., a radical Islamic group attacked two towers that they associated with Christianity and Judaism and capitalism and international interference in the affairs of others.
In Mumbai in late 2008, attacks killed more than 170 people and wounded over 300 as the concepts of “hate” and “different from” inspired attacks at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, the Leopold Cafe, the Cama Hospital, the Orthodox Jewish-owned Nariman House, and the Metro Cinema as well as in a lane behind the Times of India building and St. Xavier's College, at the Mazagaon docks, and in a taxi at Vile Parle. The attacks were carried out by persons who believed in “differences” and who believed they were at a higher place than “others” on their fictional hierarchy.
In the U.S., a doctor was killed recently by a man who was associated with anti-abortion, anti-government groups, a man who had a subscription to Prayer and Action News, a magazine that advocates “justifiable homicide” as a way of protesting abortion.
Thus, their message is to enter into prayer and then take homicidal action, and that is a popular message across the globe nowadays.
The arrogance-based hysteria that emphasizes the differences in the concepts and beliefs among the members of the three sky cults that share a common root in Abraham but have nevertheless fought with each others for centuries; their fighting has been ratcheted up to a never-before-seen frenzy among the 6.5+ billion members of those three cults.
Having always been enthusiastic about prayer, they are now just as enthusiastic about taking action, especially homicidal action. Arrogance pollutes.
On 10 June 2009, a man self-described as “a white nationalist” who posted anti-Jew and anti-black diatribes on his website entered the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C. and killed an African-American guard before being shot by other security personnel. Arrogance pollutes.
European Christians killed over 150,000,000 indigenous peoples of North, Central and South America who were thought to be “heathens” because of their refusal to accept Christ as their savior, but the driving force was the desire by those Europeans to gain more land, resources, and wealth.
Six million Jews and six million “undesirables” were killed by Nazis and their supporters in the late 1930’s and the first half of the 1940’s. The “undesirables included gays, blacks, gypsies, and the physically or mentally handicapped, among others.
In the war Germany started, over 85 million people would be killed. WWII was rooted in religious “differences” but the actual aim was to allow Germany to gain more land, resources, and wealth.
Then, add in the Christian Inquisitions, ethnic cleansings carried out across the globe for decades and continuing to this day;
Moreover, add in those killed during the apartheid era in South Africa and all of the other instances that could be catalogued.
Bottomline: billions if not trillions have been killed since humanlike beings appeared, and the cause usually dealt with either (1) acquiring and holding control of land and resources and / or (2) killing “the other” - that is, any who seemed or appeared to be “different from.”
At the root of all that was greed, fear, and an arrogance-based sense of “better-than-ment.
But see that all of those acts which have been labeled “acts of hatred” are really acts of polluting arrogance which are rooted in a false sense of identity and a false sense of separation.
While the U.S. Constitution claims that all men are created equal, that was accurate to the degree that women were certainly not considered equal according to societal norms or the law and inaccurate in claiming that blacks and slaves “would be counted as three-fifths of a free person.”
Those are only some of the examples in a series of events in which millions have been killed as a result of perceived “differences” and the polluting arrogance referenced by Maharaj.
As far as the relative existence is concerned, arrogance pollutes “individual relationships,” “national relationships,” and “international relationships.” Arrogance pollutes. A lack of understanding of the unicity pollutes. An absence of the understanding of Real Love / commonality / oneness pollutes.
