BEING
MADE CRAZY, CRAZY, STAYING CRAZY or AWARE OF CRAZINESS AND SEEKING SANITY
During a recent Q and A session, a man became driven to challenge the pointers regarding “the mind” which I shared from Maharaj and which I shared from “my own experiences.”
Now, in my 76 years, I have been exposed to most religions, to many spiritual groups or “programs,” to ideologies, to philosophies, to all of the non-dual “teaching methods” and the thousands of (often warped) subsets of those, etc., etc. etc.
But in the reaction of the man inspired by several of his false identifications which obviously gave him a false sense that the beliefs which he prized were being attacked, that man came up with something I never heard in any of the venues mentioned above.
He said:
“We are nothing but our beliefs. That’s all we are.”
Hummm. Really?
Some of you are aware that my Uncle Brooks was chief administrator of the largest mental institution in Texas, built in 1919 and still in operation today.
Now renamed “The Rusk State Hospital,” it was - and is - an in-patient hospital providing psychiatric treatment and care. Services include psychiatric services and maximum-security forensic psychiatric services for adults, including the “criminally insane.”
So the people locked away there were “their beliefs?”
Some believed they were God. Some believed they were Satan. One believed he was Caesar reincarnate.
Some suffered extreme cases of schizophrenia and believed that they were possessed by demons, that a god was talking to them, that they themselves were divine beings, or that they were prophets.
Reflecting on my visits to that institution in Rusk, Texas, I heard again the words, “We are nothing but our
beliefs. That’s all we are.” Really?
So there in that institution under my uncle's care were Caesar, Satan, God, divine beings, prophets, etc.?
They were “their beliefs?” Amazing? Or absurd?
Some believe that they are "The Super Religious One," "A Spiritual Giant," "The Greatest Member of AA to Ever Exist," "Super Spouse," ad infinitum. Their thinking does not make it so. There belief that those roles are their identity does not make it so.
Most on this planet are not suffering cases of insanity as severe as those people. Most are hanging out on the stage of the Theater of the Lie which also involves degrees of insanity.
Some with the most extreme instances of the three symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness (per Maharaj, “ignorance, stupidity, and insanity”) are instead hanging out on the stage of the Theater of the Absurd.
Moreover, the “realized” understand that the words “I am” can never truthfully be followed by any noun or adjective. Whatever is stated is a lie. ALL identifications must be forfeited, for none are real.
Why? There is no truth to any perceived who-ness or Who-ness, to any perceived identity or Identity. Because those are contrived by the ignorance-and-insanity-driven programming, conditioning, etc. which are operating in most human minds.
The non-dual “direct path” which can be taken to complete one’s journey (of searching) historically required seekers in Steps One, Two and Three to abandon body identification, mind identification, and personality / personal / person / false identifications and return in Step Four to “The Child Ignorance Stage” or the “Child No-Knowing State.”
Yeshu’a (erroneously called “Jesus”) in his last years was sharing a non-dual message. He said, “Let the little children come unto me” and “Change and become like little children.”
Meaning? Your mind must be as empty as it was when you were a child and were abiding under the auspices of the natural brain and not under the auspices of the unnatural, warped, fiction-filled mind.
During that Q and A, I shared that “there is no such thing as “my mind.” There is only “their” mind. Meaning? Meaning the content of a human mind is hand-me-down nonsense and learned ignorance.
Maharaj said that “realization is simply the result of having become free of belief in the learned ignorance you have been taught.” How to achieve that result?
By unlearning, but being un-taught by someone that has realized how ignorant humans are made to be as a result of ignorant and insane programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination.
What is driving anyone who becomes aggravated, annoyed and irritated if someone invites them to see where their beliefs came from and to question the validity of those beliefs?
Arrogance, the use of which is trigger by ego-defense mechanisms when false identities lead that person to believe that he / she is under attack.
Defensiveness which is triggered when someone believes that his parents are under attack: “How outrageous! My parents were wise people. They did a great job raising us!" The implication: “If you don’t believe that, just look at how great I - the product of those loins - turned out, you accusatory ass!!!!”
One fellow, when a few examples of the nonsense his parents (and spiritual group and other influencers) passed down to him were referenced, he switched his approach and said, “Well they did the best they could, dammit!”
The reply: “So did Hitler. He wanted to kill all Jews on the planet, but he only got six million of them. But he did the best he could. Go Hitler. Heil, mofo.”
If persons cannot become free of mind identification (which inspires persons to define themselves in terms of the warped content placed in the mind parts of the brain by others), then one will not be able to advance to Step Three on the “path” and be freed from being driven by false personas / false identifications and one will not be freed of the false content of the mind which blocks movement to the Fourth Step and return to the “The Child Ignorance Stage” or the “Child No-Knowing State” which was the last time persons were abiding in a “zero concepts” state.
So, Maharaj’s take regarding the mind and beliefs stored therein:
Insanity is universal. Sanity is rare. Yet there is hope because the moment we perceive our insanity, we are on the way to sanity.
This is the function of the Guru - to make us see the madness of our daily living.
If you seek reality, you must set yourself free of all backgrounds, of all cultures, of all patterns of thinking and feeling. Even the idea of being man or woman, or even human, should be discarded. The ocean of life contains all, not only humans.
We believe in so many things on hearsay. We believe in distant lands and people, in heavens and hells, in gods and goddesses, because we were told. Similarly, we were told about ourselves, our parents, name, position, duties and so on. We never cared to verify. The way to truth lies through the destruction of the false.
To destroy the false, you must question your most inveterate beliefs.
He discussed the problems of "blind beliefs."
The more earnest you are, the less belief you need.
Life itself is only a make-belief.
desires and fears, envies and anger, blind beliefs and intellectual arrogance pollute and dull the psyche.
Go forth, unburdened with ideas and beliefs.
So what was Maharaj’s state in the end, the state which ultimately freed him and led to the birth of his wisdom? It was a no-mind state. Thus he advised:
“There is no such thing as a mind.”
“I have no mind . . . .”
Want to be free of the mind? Maharaj advised:
“Then reach a state of zero-concepts.”
“As to my mind, I have no such thing. There is consciousness in which
everything happens.”
“I am double dead: not only am I dead to my body, but to my mind, too.”
“I find I have lost the mind irretrievably.”
It is the mind which is a storehouse for body and mind and personality identifications.
It is the mind which is a storehouse for dualistic and, therefore, bogus ideas and concepts and notions and misperceptions (a.k.a., “beliefs”) which generate instability and chaos and misery and suffering.
It is the mind which is a storehouse of the ignorant and insane beliefs which were planted therein by ignorant and insane programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination.
It is the mind which is a storehouse of all which imprisons persons.
[John Milton said, “The mind . . . in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven” and Richard Lovelace said, “Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.” So what did he identify as that which does make a prison? The mind, packed chock full of false identifications and false beliefs.]
It is the mind which is a storehouse to all which results in a false sense of different-from-ment which - in turn - always leads to a subsequent sense of better-than-ment.
It is the mind, being the storehouse of beliefs about different-from-ment and better-than-ment, which leads to a false sense of separation which then sets the stage for arguments, nonsensical disagreements, fighting, conflict, killing, wars, chaos, pain, misery, and suffering.
It is the mind which is a storehouse of learned ignorance, personality disorders, and the neuroses and psychoses which can follow as personality disorders disintegrate into a state of severe psychic unhealthiness.
At every step, the long and arduous “path” which was followed here for decades involved dealing with persons who were all determined to use their dogma or exercises or beliefs or methods to add more to the mind, touting the need for more dogma, more spiritual exercises, more philosophy, more ideology, more (but different) beliefs, ad infinitum.
The long and arduous search ended when it became clear that (1) all of the stuff in the mind was the actual source of every problem, the mind being the origin of every problem; and that (2) the solution did indeed call for de-accumulation . . . that is, called for entering into a process of being un-taught all of it; it called for entering into a process of un-learning it all;
and it called for casting aside all of the nonsense which had been added to and stored in a part of the brain which would be called “the mind” and which would lead to decades of ignorant and nonsensical and insane actions which led to massive levels of misery and suffering that did not end until the mind came to an end.
How to end the mind, the entire content of which can all be summarized with the term, “one’s beliefs”?
Abandon all beliefs. No beliefs? No mind. No mind? No stone walls. No stone walls? Freedom.
As has been noted here, each belief, each assumed persona, and each scrap of learned ignorance which is all stored in the mind . . . each of those becomes one of the many bars which are used to form the prison of the mind.
Want to be freed from prison? Cut away the bars of beliefs; the bars of identifications (or some “Special Identification”); and the bars of taught and learned ignorance.
Only then can you be free of dualistic thinking, and only free of dualistic thinking can you be truly free, and only if truly free can you be happy or at least content. (As Maharaj said, “It really is simple,” yes?)
It is the ever-churning mind which sets the stage for Dissociative Identity Disorder to manifest and for that to begin controlling every thought, every word, and every deed.
It does not piss me off when listeners become “no-hearers.” If what I say pisses off anyone, then that has nothing to do with me and instead has everything to do with the egotism and anger which the false identities stored in their minds always trigger when questioned.
Soon, those types will tell me how many years they have been on a path which has made them spiritual giants and masters of peace, their state of being pissed notwithstanding.
BS, but so it is.
I end today with this: there is no one here who wants anyone to believe what is believed here. Why? Because that would be impossible since no one here has any beliefs about anything. Being belief free, I have been stripped of any ability to become pissed off.
What replaced the former miasma of beliefs? An understanding. An awareness of facts. Being in touch with reality.
When Maharaj said, “There is no such thing as peace of mind,” I added, “There is only peace if you are out of your mind.”
