NON-DUALITY TAKES CENTER STAGE IN THE U.S. - AT LEAST FOR A MOMENT
We’ll pause in order to share some information sent to me by a frequent visitor to this site.
There have been discussions here in the past when a non-dual speech or new book or movie or song captured the attention of many in the U.S.
In the “Quotes” book listed in the right-hand column, there is a discussion of non-dual works which have used the non-dual understanding as a center piece.
Another such instance occurred recently and a visitor sent a copy of one of the many news reports highlighting the non-dual message.
The article offers a report on the non-dual information included in Ken Burns’ recent commencement address to the Brandeis University class of 2024. Burns is well-known for his series of historical documentaries. His recent speech is being discussed in national newscasts here as well as across the internet and in national newspapers.
Citing a part of one of Abraham Lincoln’s addresses, Burns pointed out the fundamental optimism of Lincoln though he would preside over the U.S. during a time when the country was the most divided it has ever been.
Burns’ choice to point out this context conveyed his hope that the graduating class will be able to adopt a nuanced understanding of the world around them despite a current state of heightened division.
Then Burns pointed out that the U.S. is a geographically isolated body, specifically mentioning “our devotion to money and guns and conspiracies,” “our certainty about everything” and “our own [supposed] exceptionalism blinding us to that which needs repair.”
Burns, without mentioning duality, described how “everything is either right or wrong, red states or blue states, young or old, gay or straight, rich or poor, Palestinian or Israeli, my way or the highway.” In other words, he said, “we have over-embraced binary [i.e., duality-based] labels.
Burns then brought up an interview he had with writer James Baldwin who views this adherence to binary labels as a form of self-imposed slavery. As Burns puts it, “There is only us. There is no ‘them.’ Whenever someone suggests to you, whomever it may be in your life, that there is a ‘them,’ run away. ‘Othering’ is the simplistic binary way to make and identify enemies, but it is also the surest way to your own self imprisonment.”
Burns proceeded to comment on the upcoming presidential election, a brief pause to his promise of neutrality. “There is no real choice this November,” he said. “The presumptive Republican nominee is the opioid of all opioids.”
Burns posited that in choosing this nominee, “you end up re-enslaved with an even bigger problem, a worse affliction and addiction, a bigger delusion.”
He implored his audience, “do not be seduced by easy equalization. There is nothing equal about this equation.” Burns encourages the graduates to use their vote to preserve the United States' resistance to militant ideology.
Burns also encouraged the graduates to engage with nature, “where nothing is binary” [a pure nisargan pointer]. He also encouraged the graduates to choose “honor over hypocrisy,” “character over cleverness” and “sacrifice over self-indulgence.” He asked the graduates to “denounce oppression everywhere” and to “insist that we support science.”
[All quite Maharaj-like, yes?]

If you were suffering from a sickness, would you accept treatment from a doctor that does not complete a diagnosis and identify the specific cause(s) prior to formulating a treatment plan?
Of course not, so you should not
be expected to accept treatment of the Ultimate Sickness from any guide that
does not identify cause(s) prior to formulating a treatment plan.
A narcissistic know-it-all showed
up in Maharaj’s loft and started spouting the
same-old, same old to try to impress his captive audience with the supposedly
“profound” depth and breadth of his knowledge of things non-dual.
Eventually, Maharaj stopped his
monologue and explained that he did not give a tinker’s damn about which gurus
or guides or writers the man was quoting; instead, Maharaj said that he only
wants to hear about a seeker’s own experiences and who shares only what the
seeker has come to perceive and understand.
In the next series, we will begin
with finding the cause(s) of the Sickness not only 5000 years ago but also
today which some few and capable non-dual guides will use to formulate a
treatment plan which will differ entirely from the plans which have failed
humankind for thousands of years and which are still being used - ineffectively
- today.
As with Covid-19, researchers and
manufacturers of treatment and / or preventive measures were and are constantly
having to change their treatment plans because of mutations. The same applies
with humankind: the problems of humans - be they physical or psychological - require
treatment from a guide that is constantly studying mutations in order to update
and modify and improve the version of the Ultimate Medicine being used to address
all aspects of the Ultimate Sickness.
The Effects of Mutations And
Variants - in Humankind, in the Non-Dual Message, in Religious Texts, in
Spiritual Messaging, in Forms of Government, in Economic Systems, in Tribalism,
in the Human Brain, in sicknesses and the Ultimate Sickness, ad infinitum. Everything is Mutated;
hence, the Normal or Natural Has Been Replaced by the Abnormal, by the
Unnatural, by the Supernatural by Magical and Warped Thinking, by Language, and
by the Resulting Warped, Detrimental Behavior.]

“Two Tools That Can Assist with
the Restoration to Sanity: ‘The 180-Degree Rule’”
“The 180-Degree Rule” is a tool that invites seekers to look at every thought or belief or idea or concept to find what the 180-degree opposite of that would be and to see if the opposite might be more sane and more logical and more constructive (again, relatively speaking).
The fact that certain cultures now discourage appropriate touching and the use
of the expression “I love you” has led to such negative consequences around the
globe - also relatively speaking - that several posts will be required to deal
with all of the aspects involved. Consider:
BELIEF: [A man and a woman came here for the “Couples Package.” During one
session when their personality test scores were being discussed - revealing
that he was likely to be withdrawn and withholding and that she was going to be
warm and expressive - she explained to him that she was concerned that he never
touched her except when he wanted sex.:
He:
“What’s the use of touching when you don’t want sex - I’ll just get turned on
and then end up frustrated when the sex doesn’t come.”]
180-DEGREE OPPOSITE: Not only is it normal for my wife to want to be touched
sexually at times but it is also natural and normal for her to want to be
touched in non-sexual ways at other times; furthermore, it is unnatural and
abnormal for me not to want to touch her in non-sexual ways and it is unnatural
and abnormal for me not to want to be touched in non-sexual ways at times.
Also,
I now see that I have been a self-absorbed, self-serving ass in our
relationship. Rather than justifying that - as well as my prurient motives - I
apologize and will begin enjoying the normal and natural process of touching
even when I have no hidden motives. I will also enjoy the same if my wife is
willing to offer that.
To abide in unnatural ways is not only abnormal but is a manifestation of some
level of insanity as well. That begs the questions: “So what is normal and
natural in relationships? Is it natural to be with someone constantly, or is it
natural to take breaks from each other every now and then? Is it natural to
live alone forever? Is it natural to be unable to be happy if alone?”
The balance or lack thereof is often determined by personality. The odds are
often stacked against the possibility of any two people finding what the “proper
balance” is for them and thus remaining compatible for an entire manifestation.
Consider the role of personality in contributing to the imbalance. Because of
personality, some types (Personality Type Two’s, for example, forever seeking
the love that they unconsciously feel they did not receive during childhood)
are clingy and prefer to have their mate next to them constantly.
Type 8 Controllers can behave the same way, an 8 male often demanding that his
mate be next to him always and “not on the telephone in another room talking
with a friend or relative.”
The 8’s motive differs from the 2’s, though: the 8 expects to be treated as a god, loved “with all of your body, your heart, your mind and your soul.”
It
matters not to the 8 that he is sitting on a couch and using the remote control
to race through television channels all night - his mate is supposed to be
there, her body right next to his, even as he ignores her.
Next, what does this have to do with the non-dual understanding? One, the
teachings always point toward truth, and truth is Love. There is a tremendous
difference between Real Love and the version of “love” that the masses speak
of;
however,
when full realization happens - after which Reality is overlaid on reality . .
. after the Absolute is overlaid on the relative - then there is also a
convergence of Real Love and relative “love” which finally happens not in a
side-by-side manner but which manifests with the understanding of non-duality’s
“not-two.”
This subject matter also has much to do with the non-dual subjects of the
effects of acculturation that are to be seen and abandoned as well as the
pervasive sense of separation that is felt among the non-realized masses around
the globe;
too, the subject matter has much to do with the Nisarga Yoga’s invitation to behave naturally, not unnaturally and not supernaturally. Appropriate touching is natural. Inappropriate touching and not touching are both unnatural.
