ANNOUNCEMENTS
[Walter Driscoll asked to interview me in order to preserve on video some of the latest modifications and evolutions in the versions of the message offered here since 1989. He would label the discussion, "Unlearning with Floyd Henderson."
Please note: For those who have a problem hearing what is being shared, the video offers a fairly accurate set of closed captions which some listeners might want to activate.
The interview is available for viewing by clicking on video "NUMBER THIRTEEN" in the column to the right.]
1. [See the offer in gold text following this post for details on how you can watch a retreat on video which includes a detailed discussion of all seven of the steps on the path as used by Maharaj]
2. Here, with those who are still driven to talk about "god," the "Son of god," the "Holy Spirit," "Buddha," "Krishna," etc., etc., etc., the invitation to them is to view those as verbs, not nouns. See the green text after today's post for the full meaning and implications of that.
3. A new video ("Number Ten: Awakening Together Satsang, March 2018") has now been added in the far right column of this page, offering the opportunity to view a recent 2018 satsang session with Floyd being interviewed by Regina and Jacqueline of "The Awakening Together Group." (See the details in the blue text after this post.)
4. Some prefer paperback books even if they have to wait a day or so to receive it and have to pay more for a printed book and its shipment. Now, 10 paperback books by Henderson are in print and available in two anthologies through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and over 40,000+ booksellers around the globe including in the Americas, Germany, India, Italy, Poland, Russia, China, Spain, Brazil and South Korea. See the end of this post in red text for details.
5. Would you like to have us send to someone as a gift from you a copy of any ebook in our inventory? See the offer in purple text at the end of this post.
6. Or, you may purchase a Floyd Henderson Shopify Gift Card here for someone and offer recommendations for the books in Floyd's store which might be of assistance to them.
7. You may click here to visit Floyd's bookstore which offers both digital books and paperback books which deal with non-duality, non-duality-based fictional adventures, recovery, financial sanity, financial planning, and more.
BELIEFS AND FEARS:
The Fathers and Mothers of Foolishness
ARE YOU PROUDLY WEARING YOUR FAMILY’S HAND-ME-DOWN BELIEFS?
A popular activity nowadays is the study of one’s family ancestry. Individuals and companies that are offering “genealogy” research services are flourishing.
Some persons engage in such searching to uncover information needed for medical diagnosis and family medical history; however, other are engaging in an ego trip, trying to find famous people they are related to (as if that would enhance the seeker’s status).
I met a classmate in college in 1966 who was already a genealogy nut. She could tell you the names of many supposedly-famous people among her ancestors. Today, almost sixty years later, she is still obsessed with her fame and ego seeking addiction.
There are shows that can be watched that deal with the search, including “Finding Your Roots with Henry Lee Gates, Jr”; “A New Leaf”; “Ancestors”; “Ancestors in the Attic”; “Genealogy Roadshow”; “The Genetic Detective”; “The Generations Project”; “Long Lost Family”; “Relative Race”; “Roots Less Traveled”; “Who do You Think You Are?” and many others.
Companies have formed to tap into the fad: “My Heritage”; “Ancestry”; “Find My Past”; “Genes Reunited”; “Legacy Tree”; “Just Answer,” and more.
The question for you is, “Are you breaking the chains (or have you broken the chains) which link your belief systems and behavior patterns to past generations in your family which - if viewed objectively - are beliefs and behaviors which are far from being hand-me-down 'assets' and far from being hand-me-down influences which are even remotely 'beneficial'?”
Valerie Wittman has stripped away the delusion-based charm of personal ancestry, revealed in the process why Maharaj was adamant about purging all influences handed down from one’s forebears.
Maharaj: “If you seek reality you must set yourself free of all backgrounds . . . .”
and
“Past and future are in the mind only - I am now.”
Truth be understood, that which you seek so proudly and so energetically and so vigorously is actually what you should be trying to distance yourself from completely.
Wittman wrote the following:
We’re all just broken children living in adult bodies, aren’t we? We’re mostly made of scar tissue and deflated imaginations, composed of the narratives handed down to us from our parents. Parents who we sometimes forget were children just like us, with all the angst, insecurities, and paralyzing self-doubt.
Our parents learned to love from the only examples they had. Learned what to preach, when to praise, and how to punish. Then, whether intending to or not, they carried on these lessons to their own children and the cycle continued.
If from a young age we feel the hot sting of a hand across our cheek after misplacing one of our toys, we may very well improve at looking after our belongings, but what happens to that child who grows up believing that imperfection is unacceptable?
Perhaps this moment in time is deemed insignificant, but do these moments not eventually define us when we’re older?
We may not remember the exact moment our abandonment issues emanated. We may not know why we fear the dark, cramped spaces, or being alone. But somewhere within our tender histories, we developed these phobias. This is also where we developed our bad habits or crooked ethics.
When we become parents ourselves, we vow to not repeat the mistakes made in the wake of our upbringing. We vow to guard our young against all the evil we’ve witnessed, at least until they’re strong enough to do so on their own.
Surprisingly, many of us end up morphing into our parents regardless of our intentions and find it impossible to unstitch their teachings.
Teachings that may have only resulted from scarcity beliefs or irrational fears. It’s not even just our parents, it’s our neighbors, our friends, our school teachers.
(In other words, it’s about the warped, nonsensical programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, brainwashing, and indoctrination often referenced here and by Maharaj.)
Every relationship we have influences our posture to some degree, whether we realize it or not.
The good thing about these learned behaviors is that they can be unlearned. We can break the cycle and start our own. We don’t have to wear the scars of our parents or our friends or our teachers. We can manifest any life we want, assuming we learn to recognize what scars actually belong to us.
There likely isn’t a human being that walks the face of this earth and doesn’t have some sort of unhealed trauma. But there’s no reason why that trauma needs to reside in us forever.
If we do the grunt work and heal ourselves, we keep history from repeating itself, and we save the lives of future generations. If we stop blaming and learn instead to forgive, we find resolution. A breath of fresh air and a newly paved path for our families to walk amongst.
No one is at fault for their brokenness. But anyone who doesn’t attempt to mend what needs healing is only amplifying the problem. We all are broken children living in adult bodies, but we can choose to acknowledge our frailties and in the future maybe we will be far less likely to pass them on to our own children, and them to theirs.
Consider:
A Believer: “Of course I believe that God’s sperm was implanted by an angel inside a virgin who gave birth to a son that is now my savior.”
F.: “And who told you that?”
Believer: “My parents and my religious leaders.”
F.: “And who told your parents?”
B.: “Their parents.”
F.: “And who told those parents?”
B.: “Look . . . let’s save our breath. I come from a long line of ancestors who are proud of the fact that they were all stanch and devout Christians who were blessed with the gift of unquestioning faith and blessed to be able to believe the truth when passed down by those in positions of authority.”
F.: “Ah . . . right.”
Please enter into the silence of contemplation.
