HAVING THE ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY DISORDER TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER, WHICH IS THE CASE WITH ALL HUMANKIND, PROVES THAT ALL HUMANS ARE TRYING TO REACH THE ZERO CONCEPTS, NO-MIND STATE OF WHICH I SPEAK
A rock band called Linkin Park released a song in 2003 entitled “Somewhere I Belong.”
The song included these lyrics:
I wanna heal, I wanna feel
what I thought was never real.
I wanna let go of the pain I've felt so long.
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm close to something real.
I wanna find something I've wanted all along.”
The consideration for seekers this morning is this:
Is it possible that there is something which you have wanted all along but that you have not yet identified exactly?
Most seeker who have heard Maharaj say “There’s no such thing as peace of mind” have become skeptical and have immediately rejected that pointer.
Their reactions have become downright hostile when he followed up with “I have no mind . . .” and his invitation to “Reach a state of zero-concepts”
and said,
“As to my mind, I have no such thing. There is consciousness in which everything happens” and “I am double dead: not only am I dead to my body, but to my mind, too” and “I find I have lost the mind irretrievably.”
They joined ranks with the eristics and - like the eristic I crossed paths with recently - determined that Maharaj was (and that I currently am) the craziness SOB they’ve ever heard.
But what if what Maharaj suggested and what I suggest nowadays is exactly what everyone has wanted all along?
The eristic who erroneously thinks it was I that got his panties into a bundle bragged about the decades of sobriety he has accumulated.
Well, what was going on during the years he was constantly drunk? Might he not have a clue about what was driving him to drink?
He’s been told that alcoholism is a two-fold illness of body and mind (or three-fold if one believes in the “spiritual malady” concept).
The “body part” refers to why alkies generally cannot stop drinking once they start. That’s about their slow-acting pancreas which inefficiently processes the way their bodies metabolize glucose / sugar. But it is the “mind part” (the “obsessive mind” specifically) which gets them drinking in the first place.
So what was driving him and all alkies to drink? The obsessive mind. Not spiritual unfitness? No. The mind.
All addicts are using whatever they are addicted to try to escape the mind, that chatter of a thousand monkeys between their ears.
When people commit suicide by use of a gun, they do not shoot themselves in the foot. No, the bullet is sent into the head. Why? Because that is where they sense the problem lies. And they are correct. The problem centers in the mind.
All humans have an addiction to one thing or another. They search unconsciously for something addictive which seems effective at allowing them to escape, at least temporarily, from the misery of the mind; once they find that something, they stick with it.
For some, they stick with gambling. For some, they stick with gaming. For some, they stick with sex. For some, they stick with nicotine. For some, they stick with shopping. For some, they stick with playing the markets. For some, they stick with porn.
For some, they stick with food. For some, they stick with their mobile devices. For some, they stick with cocaine or other drugs. For some, they stick with pain killers. For some, they stick with inhalants.
For some, they stick with sedatives. For some, they stick with stimulants. For some, they stick with cocaine or other drugs.
Whatever the object of their addiction, they will use that to - subconsciously - try to lessen the level of discomfort which is coming from the content of the mind.
And the content of the mind includes ideas, notions, concepts, thoughts, impressions, images, opinions, views, theories, and learned knowledge / learned ignorance, all of which can be summarized as “beliefs.”
Moreover, none of those are their beliefs. They are the beliefs of others which have been accepted as - and are now being defended as - their own.
How did those beliefs end up being stored in the mind parts of humans brain? By being exposed to warped and nonsensical programming and conditioning and acculturation and domestication and brainwashing and indoctrination.
So to an earlier point: what is it that humans want - subconsciously - but do not have and usually never identify as their real problem, thus setting them up to use escape mechanisms / addictions to try to free them of the nagging, misery-generating source of dis-ease which robs them of contentment?
And what is the greatest irony? When someone comes along who understands the problem and understands wherein it lies and then suggests that there is a permanent treatment for eliminating the source of all of their problems, how do the masses react?
With anger, hostility, dismissal, antagonism, resentment, oppositional defiance, and enmity.
To suggest that their beliefs generate their problems triggers their fight-not-flight reaction, inspiring them to vigorously defend what they take to be their own cherished and treasured and prized and dear and loved beliefs which are not their own at all.
I used to talk about “my beliefs” when what I was actually talking-in-my-sleep about was “their beliefs,” the beliefs of others.
And looking back, honestly and openly, for the first time, I asked, “How has being driven by other’s beliefs really worked for me?” The answer was, “Not worth a damn.”
So why did I hang on to “their beliefs”? Intimidation? Family approval? Friends approval? Community approval? Employer approval?
So the key pointer today is this: having the addictive personality disorder to one degree or another proves that all humans are trying to reach the zero concepts, no-mind state of which I speak.
The “something” humans are looking for without knowing it, the “something which they have wanted all along,” is freedom from the mind, from being jerked around by the ignorant beliefs of others.
Additionally, since non-duality is about de-accumulation, non-duality is also about getting rid of the cancerous cells in the brain which are causing misery. The answer is not to replace old cancerous cells with new cancerous cells.
The answer is not to get rid of “their beliefs” and come up with a new belief system of my own. I’d be just as screwed.
One can abide under the auspices of the brain and have no beliefs while at the same time having . . . understanding. That includes the understanding of the functioning of the totality.
The suggestion is not to eliminate the content / beliefs presently stored in the mind parts and thereby become dullards and dotards. Far from it.
Maharaj: “To know that you are a prisoner of the mind is the dawn of wisdom.”
and
“The death of the mind is the birth of wisdom.”
Some have told me, “If I give up my beliefs, I will be stupid.”
I ask, “Have there been any who told you that you were stupid, even as ‘your beliefs’ were present? Just asking.”
Fools know not when they are being fooled or when they are behaving as fools.
The wise are beyond adopting beliefs, making way for wisdom to be conceived, to develop, and to manifest fully.
The wise will no longer be
shocked when they realize that what I’m suggesting about their minds is what
they have been wanting all along without knowing it.
