Grasping a Clearer Understanding of Non-Dual Terms
Again, with the site visitors who have been visiting regularly since September of 2021, even more clarity might be manifesting now. So let’s look at some of the misused terms discussed last fall and see the roots of those fallacies and the continuing promotion and distribution of that nonsense in some non-dual circles:
HAVING AN AGELESS BODY AND TIMELESS MIND
Maharaj warned visitors to “stay away from ‘the Big Name Teachers’.” Why? The recent discussion of the fallacy of the concept of “conventional wisdom” is at the roots of it, as well as the term “popularity.”
The weaker parent is the one that is usually the more popular one with children, especially if the weaker one is teaching them such ways and means which lead to their being called “brats,” “spoiled,” “obnoxious little monsters,” “little horrors,” etc.
The “popular one” among non-dualists is the one that persons are most attracted to and the big name ones are the ones whom seekers turn into millionaires.
Maharaj made clear that the Big Name Teachers are teaching nonsense. Here, they are seen to be “The New Alchemists.”
In 12th century Europe, “alchemy” was the name given to a bogus "aspect of thought" (associated also with the bogus teaching of astrology).
Alchemists - the Big Names Teachers of that time - claimed to be able to teach the relationship of humans to the cosmos, teaching that “the stars” and “the movements of celestial bodies” could be used to predict upcoming events as well as far-into-the-future events.
Conning the masses to believe in their nonsense, they offered to paying customers their “personal and unique astrological readings.” The spreading of their nonsense often allowed them to accumulate considerable wealth.
Seeing how gullible the masses were, the charlatans expanded their "prediction business" into their other dreamed up concept of alchemy, claiming that they could transform base metals into gold and silver.
The masses visited the alchemists from far and wide, and if the fools' base metals were not turned into gold, their visitors were nevertheless assured that the alchemists could provide a different benefit, namely, that they could cure diseases and extend life; thus, the alchemists offered a pacifying consolation prize:
visitors would be given a bonus of certain useless “medicines” which had been concocted by the swindlers and which would supposedly cure their visitors’ diseases and extend their lives.
The gullible seekers could see that their lead did not turn into gold, but they had no way of knowing whether the alchemist failed to “extend their lives” or not.
In Maharaj’s day, the same types of cons showed up and associated themselves with non-duality. The same con-based practice continues to this day.
Nowadays, one such millionaire generates more nonsense than many of his fellow Big Name Teachers and is the one who introduced the notion of “having an ageless body and timeless mind.”
Now millions around the globe who bought the book with that title agree with the one who wrote in the foreword that the author / doctor “presents us with information that can help us live long, healthy lives.” Really, or is that the same as the ancient alchemists’ false claim?
Run the test:
Does that Big Name Teacher report that he can help humans live longer, healthier lives? Check. Alchemy BS.
Does he also claim to be able to show humans their relationship to the cosmos? Check. Alchemy BS.
Has he been able to turn lead (or BS messages) into gold? You bet. He is presently worth a reported $170,000,000. Check.
He seems to meet the criteria for playing the role of “A Modern Day Alchemist” and a “Miracle Worker” and “A Big Name Teacher” which Maharaj warned seekers to avoid.
What’s the test about the concept of having an ageless body and timeless mind? Well, ask the questions which paraphrase the non-dualist William Shakespeare’s most famous "to be or not to be" question:
"Let's see. To be able to have an ageless body, or not?" Why would anyone’s BS detector not be stuck in the loud alarm position?
“To be able to have a timeless mind, or not?” Why would anyone’s BS detector not be stuck in the loud alarm position?
Maharaj: "I am double dead: not only am I dead to my body, but to my mind, too."
The only other pointer which a “realized non-dualist” should offer about body and mind is this:
Your association with - and your preoccupation with false identities, such as identifying with the body and the mind and personality - must end if you would realize fully (meaning, per Maharaj) if you would realize that all of “their beliefs” and all of “your beliefs” are nonsense, the very stuff of which the Ultimate Sickness is made.
Why “their beliefs”? Because that is what all of the beliefs which you suppose are “yours” really are, just "theirs":
"your supposed beliefs" are just an accumulation of "their" beliefs, the beliefs of others which are stored in "your" mind (which is made up of the parts of the brains which developed only recently in terms of humankind’s physical and physiological evolution).
Maharaj: “"I have no mind.”
The wise have long suggested, “Challenge your unexamined beliefs. No longer be imprisoned by your ignorance. Freedom is found in awareness.”
What else did Maharaj have to say about the (actually quite endless) mind?
"There is no such thing as a mind."
"I have no mind . . . ."
Want to be free of the mind? Maharaj advised:
"Reach a state of zero-concepts."
"As to my mind, I have no such thing. There is consciousness in which
everything happens."
"I find I have lost the mind irretrievably."
If the mind goes, then peace comes, and if peace comes, then going and doing and zooming and racing about also go.
