Grasping a Clearer Understanding of Non-Dual Terms
THE POWER OF NOW

Is it possible, relatively speaking, that the most detrimental and most consequential, destructive force to ever exist - as far as humans are concerned - has been the unchecked desire for control and the uninterrupted seeking of power in order to have that control?
And is it possible that fear has often been the motivator of seekers of power who want to be able to control absolutely?
And is it possible that once a human has absolute power that what is sure to follow is abused of one’s power?
[When I visited Amsterdam with family and many times a year with clients of my European Tour Company, we always stayed at the De Roode Leeuw Hotel, a re-modeled 15th-century property off Dam Square. One could exit the hotel and turn left and walk to the Central Railway Station.
In the early 1980’s, at the end of the canal running to one’s right alongside the walkway, there was a huge white sign with red letters proclaiming: “ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE.” The Dutch well understand that after dealing with the Nazi occupiers during WWII.
The message has been applicable throughout human history and continues to this day. For example, see Putin, see his political supporters around the globe who have surfaced in Asia and in the U.S. and in Western and Eastern Europe since 2016, see half of the leaders in the U.S. Congress, see half of the leaders in local and state politics in the U.S., etc.]
Additionally, being aware that every false personality identification has one major desire and one major fear, then what conclusion can be drawn about the effects of personality identifications on the entire “human experience”?
Consider the effects when certain inventions have been taken over by controlling, power-hungry leaders who have seen ways to use them not to enhance the lives of all persons but to gain power which can be used by such leaders in their efforts to intimidate and defeat and control all persons:
No matter how much inventors and scientists intended that their inventions and their scientific discoveries might be used to “improve the lives of humankind” (again, relatively speaking) the power seekers have totally bastardized their aims time and again.
Flash back to the 12th century when cannons were first introduced to leaders of China and touted as the greatest defensive tool ever conceived: "We can place them in fortresses and on our walls and drive away any would-be invaders."
Then flash ahead to the 13th and 14th centuries in Europe when cannons were converted from being used to defend forts to being offensive weapons which could be wheeled about on battlefields.
(The Scots were among some of the earliest to be slaughtered by cannons used in an offensive role by the Brits).
Or, flash back to the early 1940’s:
“Hey, we could harness nuclear energy and only use it to provide electrical energy for all of the people on the planet. What do you think?!”
“Uh . . . let’s see. Hummm. No, I think not. Nuclear plants could be dangerous. I think we should only use it to make bombs so we can blow the hell out of our enemies (that is, anyone not doing what we want them to do) and incinerate the scumbags.”
Einstein admitted that his belief that nuclear weapons - specifically an atomic bomb - would be a deterrent to Hitler and the Nazis to stop their quest to control all of the land and all of the peoples of planet earth. (He later admitted that the belief was “my one great mistake.”)
Yet millions have been attracted to a plan which tells them how they can get power, now.
Maharaj said, “For those who come here, understand that I will give you nothing; instead, I will take away everything.”
Yeshu’a (“Jesus”) said: “Think not that I am come to bring peace on earth: I came not to bring peace but to bring a sword.” He added: “If anyone come to me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”
Meaning? Meaning, “Hate those false identities and discard them. Use my sword to cut out of your mind any and all belief in those and every other false identity.”
So if abiding in the NOW should not be about trying to get power, then what should be understood?”
Is it possible that what “the Now” really offers is not power but is the bliss or the peace or the contentment which so many seek? Consider three examples.
A man fights all week with the boss and on the way to a party on Friday night is preoccupied with the fight and with the troubling prospect of a future without employment. His mind is toggling between the fight in the past and a bleak, imagined future. A few drinks later, he's forgotten the past and the future and is firmly fixed in the moment.
That same Friday, two food addicts are complaining in the restaurant about their week and about the slow service. When the food arrives, silence dominates except for the near-erotic sounds that accompany their tasting of the food.
Another couple, worn out from their trying week, opt to spend their Friday evening in bed, having sex and ultimately enjoying their synchronized orgasms. What do those people have in common?
All had racing, variable minds that were focusing on “negatives from the past” or on “potential negatives in “their futures.” But at a point, the “bliss of now” happened for each.
Their various actions stopped their variable minds, the past and future were ignored, and they were truly brought to the now, to the present moment.
Alcohol did the trick for the man at the party. Savory food did it for two others. At the moment of their simultaneous orgasms, the other couple had no past, no future, and were not even mindful (mind-full) of the present. All were out of their minds, so they were completely absorbed in the moment, only.
That Present Moment, that Eternal Now, happens only when the mind stops once and for all. All five people in the examples had problems on their minds, and all wished for some power to control their situations that made them feel enslaved and powerless.
But when they were drawn completely into the present moment, they knew no problem so they had no desire for power or control. They knew the bliss as they lost a sense even of time. In that “no time” place, even a sense of “now” disappeared.
The power and control that persons seek shall never be real for it cannot be permanent. The fixations with the illusions of past and future are obviously never real. Even the sense of “now” fades away as the variable mind fades away.
All addictions are intended to create a change that allows persons to escape from the past and from the future and to experience happiness now. In the long run, though, addictions fail since they provide only a short-term fix and long-term effects which will not be desired.
The real fix is realization.
