Grasping a Clearer Understanding of Non-Dual Terms
For those only now tuning in to this series:
With the site visitors who have been visiting regularly since September of 2021, even more clarity might be manifesting now in regards to the use of certain bogus or misunderstood terms.
That includes certain words or phrases - passed off as being “valid non-dual terms” - which have been used so often that they are now being heard or read without ever being challenged as they would be by intuitive, rational listeners who would do well to pause and ask, “Wait a minute. Does that make sense in light of what I’m coming to understand about true, legitimately non-dual pointers?”
So let’s continue to look in light of recent revelations and possibly a newer and clearer perspective and understanding at some of the misused terms discussed last fall and see now how far they miss the mark in being truly-non-dual pointers:
“I AM CONSCIOUSNESS” and “CONSCIOUSNESS IS ALL THERE IS”
“I am consciousness.”
“I am” refers merely to the temporary beingness, to what cycles and manifests. The phrase should never be followed - although it usually is - by nouns (creating false personality identifications) or by adjectives (which reinforce false body-mind identifications).
Maharaj: “That which makes you think you are human is not human. It is but a dimensionless point of consciousness, a conscious nothing; all you can say about yourself is: ‘I Am’.”
For example, creating false personality identifications happens when “ I am” is followed by nouns such as in, “I am a Christian / Jew / Muslim / Buddhist / Non-dualist / spouse / father / mother . . . whatever, ad infinitum.
As for following the phrase with adjectives, then such usage reinforces false body-mind identifications).
To say, “I am hot” or “I am cold” reinforces body identifications.
and
To say, “I am sad” or “I am suffering” are taking mind talk and mind identification and reinforcing the false belief that the mind can help define “I,” though it cannot.
If the “I” is used to refer to what a human is, the most that it can point to is the existence of a composite unity, which is a triad. As for the three parts of that triad, what a human is . . .
(1) is a temporarily-manifested elemental plant food body which is circulating elements by eating food and replacing human cells which cycle - which come and go (such as skin cells which are placed in their entirety approximately every 28 days);
(2) a space formed by that temporarily-manifested elemental plant food body which is circulating oxygen;
and
(3) a space formed by that temporarily-manifested elemental plant food body which is circulating conscious-energy / consciousness.
As for (1) above, an adult elemental plant food body can
survive for 8 to 21 days without food and water and up to two months if there's
access to an adequate water intake. Generally, after 55 days or so, the last of the supply of conscious-energy will fade away.
As for (3) above, conscious-energy constantly comes and goes. No human has even a single speck of consciousness which was in the body a few months ago, much less in the body forty or fifty or sixty years ago;
a regular supply of plant food (or food prepared from something which ate plant food) much be consumed.
So, the composite unity’s three parts are forever cycling, forever coming and going into and out the space formed by elements, and if one does not consume food, then the conscious / energy will stop cycling.
If any one of the three parts stops functioning - stops cycling - then the result will be what the masses call “death.”
As for (1) above, on planet earth, hunger / starvation is the number one cause annually of what persons call “death.”
As for (2), respiratory diseases are among the leading causes of “death” annually. Those include pollution-and-tobacco-generated lung infections, pneumonia, tuberculosis, covid, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
As for (1) and (2) above, they are the primary cause of the end of the cycling of conscious-energy in and out of human bodies.
To say, “I am consciousness” completely ignores two of the three parts of a composite unity referred to often as “I.”
Another related term is, “Consciousness is all there is.” Really? Consciousness is conscious-energy. There are many forms of energy. Consciousness is only one. It is not "all there is," though it can manifest in almost everything on the planet.
THE PURE, UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS
On the other hand, “the pure, universal consciousness” can accurately refer to that which allows a human to speak in ways which can facilitate seekers in their effort to find truth, even though the truth can only be understood but never stated.
Maharaj: “Consciousness is universal - there is no individuality. But when the consciousness stirs in a particular form which has also arisen spontaneously, and starts functioning in that form, that form assumes that it is an individual and what is unlimited limits itself to a particular form and the trouble starts.”
As for “pure,” he said, “At the root of my being is pure awareness.”
