CAUSATION and RELATIVE EVENTS AND BEHAVIORS:
“Evil?” or “Ignorance, Stupidity, and Insanity”?
DISTANT CAUSATION VS. CLOSER CAUSATION
[Continued from yesterday]
A woman contacted me in response to my frequently-offered forewarning that - to use a line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet - “the readiness is all” when it comes to being able to receive the non-dual message.
She was sure that she had reached a point where the readiness had manifested. Why?
She had originally identified her husband as the source of her misery. After listening to her for hours and hours and weeks and weeks as she complained about her spouse during counseling sessions, the priest of the church in her diocese (seeing she was never going to listen to his counsel and would never likely want to give up her habitual sessions with him) advised her to ignore church policy and leave the guy.
So she left him, but she did not leave her misery behind.
Next, she would blame her stress and suffering on her teaching job and on the control-freak administrators and on the deliquency-enabling parents that she had to deal with.
Later, when she was finally able to retire, her complaints focused on the priest and bishop who did not show enough appreciation for her volunteer work and “the critical, judgmental old people” in the retirement community she moved into, people who were 20 and 30 years older than she.
She contacted me to admit that she had “hit a bottom” and “needed answers” and was now “ready” to find them, once and for all.
She sent a payment to arrange for the multi-day non-dual package offered here and with her receipt I sent a reminder that there were no guarantees that she would “get what she was supposedly ready for.”
As predicted, she did not get what she sought because she was not ready after having spent years being programmed, conditioned, etc. in an ultra-right, ultra-religious family on a farm in South Louisiana.
What was she not ready to admit (after self-identifying as a highly-intelligent, highly-educated person)?
That she had succumbed to the effects of any psychological programming, conditioning, acculturation, domestication, indoctrination, and brainwashing.
She denied that there were any environmental, domestic, in-home elements or in-church elements at play which could have passed down the ignorance-stupidity-and-insanity-based beliefs about causation which contributed to her lifetime of misery.
She could not name any personality identifications which had been assigned to her as a child and she could not name any false roles which she had internalized.
The pointer that her thoughts led to her words and that her words led to her actions made no sense.
The invitation for her to spend time in the quiet, studying her belief systems and seeing that she actually had no beliefs and that there were only the beliefs of others which she had adopted as her own that were driving her words and her actions and resulting in her life-long misery.
When Maharaj’s quote was shared (that “realization is simply the process of being free of belief in all learned ignorance”) she could not relate; thus, any suggestions that she required being un-taught and required un-learning were irrelevant.
The greatest insult to her, however, was hearing a quote I often used during satsang sessions, “A penny for your thoughts (and the thoughts of any human at all) would be an example of overpricing and would be a huge financial rip-off.”
When she left, I was fairly certain I’d never hear from her again, but I did, one time more. The call I received was to inform me that I was the one who was insane, not her, and she’d write off the charges as a lesson learned.
When Yeshu’a (“Jesus”) saw how even his disciples could not “get” the non-dual understanding, he wept. I - probably more like her priest who finally got her to stop coming to his office - smiled.
How rare were her objections and reactions and her rejection of all pointers offered? Not rare at all. The masses, almost all suffering from the Narcissist Personality Disorder and almost all full of hubris, are walking about in their sleep and talking in their sleep.
They have no clue at all about why they think what they think; they have no clue at all about why they say the things they say; and they have no clue about why they do what they do.
So how could they possibly understand why others think the crazy thoughts they think? How could they possibly understand why others say the crazy things they say? And how could they possibly understand why others do the crazy things they do?
They cannot, but that does not stop them from spouting their dogma-based analyses and assigning the cause of others’ actions to “evil”; to the never-ending war between God and Satan; to the beginnings of that war which began when a beautiful angel named Lucifer (or Samael) defied God and fell from grace and was cast out of heaven.
[Seems hopeless if the religious warriors representing God in the God v. Satan war can’t even count of the angels in heaven, doesn't it? And if God has not been able to win “the war against evil” outright when his opponents are being led by a former angel, what chance do the mortal masses have in their war to stamp out evil?
Thus, many religious warriors lower their sights and come up with lesser, modified goals:
“If we can’t win the war against evil, maybe we white supremacists can at least kill off the blacks and browns who are our enemies”;
or,
“If we conservative right-wingers can’t win the war against the evil liberals, maybe we can at least kill off all of those left-wing, woke enemies”;
or,
“If we who are blessed with American exceptionalism - and who have built a shining city upon a hill as an example for other nations to copy - cannot persuade those other nations to become replicas of us, at least we can bomb them out of existence”;
or,
“If our Christian nation cannot convert the Jews and Muslims to convert, then we can wipe those enemies off the face of the earth”;
etc., etc., etc.
“And remember, it is never evil to destroy evil persons.”]
