WHY MAHARAJ ABANDONED RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL VERSIONS OF THE ULTIMATE MEDICINE AND TURNED HIS FOCUS TO PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALING INSTEAD
[PLEASE NOTE: Over the years I have been asked why I was so comfortable with following Maharaj’s shifts beyond offering a dogma / non-dual version of the Ultimate Medicine to offering a spiritual / non-dual version of the Ultimate Medicine and to focus as he finally did on a psychological / non-dual version of the Ultimate Medicine. The preparation to do that was many years in the making:
I am certified to teach Psychology (Levels 100 and 200) College Courses in Psychology in all 50 U.S. states. I have also provided personality testing and typing and analysis for individuals as well as for small businesses and large corporations. In those cases, I tested and typed and analyzed personality as a means of providing staff development programs which made employees aware of their specific personality assets that could help assure success in the workplace alongside certain personality liabilities which would have the opposite effect.
That work provided for individuals and businesses a higher level of quality assurance in terms of the potential effectiveness of personnel as well as training and managing current employees. I long ago incorporated that testing and typing and analysis into the non-dual message offered here for those that might be interested.]
Now, to continue.
For thousands of years, realized teachers have been offering to seekers an invitation to abandon their limited and limiting body-mind-personality identification. Why?
Some humans - though fewer and fewer it seems - have some sense that that which they truly are is beyond a physical body alone. The nonsense around what that means manifests when their so-called “religious leaders” and “spiritual guides” misinform them about what that which they truly are actually is - and what it is not.
The body of humankind’s nonsense expands when any messages from a “religious leader” and / or from a “spiritual guide” is taken to be the truth based on faith alone and with no questioning or consideration involved at all.
TO REVIEW
During the past weeks on this site, evidence has been offered about the messaging and the pointers which are contained in the religious dogma being taught, in the messaging coming out of spiritual programs, in what is being taught via a host of philosophies and ideologies, and in the venues involved with “seeking.”
It was also shown how non-dual messaging nowadays has become totally bastardized with concepts which have no validity to them at all, explaining why Maharaj said at various times that the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness which almost all humans have - symptoms involving what he called “(learned) ignorance, stupidity, and insanity.”
[It was also noted that he did not say that “people are ignorant, stupid, and insane.” He did make clear, however, that the billions among the non-realized masses are being driven by ignorant, stupid, and insane beliefs and thoughts which generate ignorant, stupid, and insane words which lead to ignorant, stupid, and insane actions.]
MOST HAVE NO CLUE REGARDING HOW SERIOUSLY DETRIMENTAL (RELATIVELY SPEAKING) THAT THEIR “MIND ISSUES” ARE
Few humans understand that the invitation to let go of "the mind" - specifically, the bogus content of the "mind" - is because it is the seat of all of the distortion and sense of separation and fighting and war and destruction around the globe.
Additionally, few understand that the non-dual invitation to abandon identification with personality - with any persona - is required if one is to be free of the personality disorders that are the precursor to insanity.
The content of the book PROGRAMMING, CONDITIONING, DOMESTICATION, AND ACCULTURATION: The Sources of the Ultimate Sickness and the Non-Duality Treatment
discusses the
ways that the ideas, concepts and beliefs presented early on to a
perfectly-sane child begin the process that will eventually render the child
completely insane, to one degree or another;
the book Instability / Insanity: What the Advaita Teachings Can (and Cannot)
Address
explains which instances of personality disorders and insanity and instability can be addressed by the non-duality teachings and which cannot.
The book which this series will draw upon, Going Crazy / Going Sane,
looks at the
current situation where insanity is "the new 'norm" around the globe;
offers examples of the planet-wide pervasiveness of personality disorders and
insanity (both topics addressed by realized teachers for thousands of years but
likely occurring now at a rate that is at an all-time high);
and offers (in addition to the content in the book THE ULTIMATE SICKNESS, THE ULTIMATE MEDICINE)
additional considerations for "Going Sane" in an insane "world."
To clarify the three terms Maharaj used to identify the key symptoms of the Ultimate Sickness:
1. “Ignorance” is taught and learned.
The mind is initially a “blank tablet.” Ignorance is not “recorded” on it initially.
2. As for “insanity,” there can also be a taught and learned element included in the roots of insanity: for example, “environmental stress,” and “psychological trauma,” brain injury, and adults modeling insane thoughts and words and actions to children can all be contributors. Some also suggest that hereditary factors can play a role.
3. “Stupidity” can manifest as a result of hereditary factors or can involve environment factors when stupidity is taught and learned. Hereditary factors might result in humans being unintelligent or might result in some humans lacking the basic ability to understand.
Environmental (taught and learned) factors can also lead some humans to behave in an unintelligent manner or to lack reason, to be illogical, and / or to think and talk and behave as complete dotards (long before age becomes a contributor to that condition).
So, "insanity" is defined as "extreme foolishness and / or irrationality; a state of serious mental illness; or, a state of total madness." Add to that believing lies to be true; not being able to differentiate true from false; believing what one is told without investigation; believing that one's false identities are real; believing the lies that egotism tells the self; and refusing to consider any suggestions or considerations that do not reinforce one's false beliefs and phony roles.
Who could be surprised to know that Maharaj was among the least popular teachers in India who were offering the teachings in his day?
Who could be surprised to learn that the teaching offered here - especially those rooted in the Nisarga Yoga - remains the least popular today?
When persons are invited to abandon their preoccupation with the body-and-mind-and-personality triad, the personality / personalities / ego / ego-states will trigger the use of ego-defense mechanisms.
That is the reason that the masses only want to hear that which reinforces their body-mind-personality identification, so persons reject that which is contrary to their views and beliefs - though those views and beliefs have never been analyzed or questioned objectively.
Instead, the ego's desire, and egotism's desire, is to hear wonderful things about the body:
"Yes, you really look good"; and
the ego's desire, and egotism's desire, is to hear wonderful things about the mind:
"Yes, you are so knowledge and smart and intelligent and brilliant"; and
and the ego's desire, and egotism's desire, is to hear wonderful things about the assumed personalities:
"Yes, all of the roles you are playing are so meaningful and important and make you different from the rest and better than the rest and really good - no, wait - they actually make you 'really great'."
The desire to hear that which reinforces their beliefs will cause most persons to reject outright these teachings that invite the masses to stop believing lies; to stop accepting as fact statement that have not been investigated; that invite religious and spiritual giants to stop all of their efforts to support new and improved but false identities by trying to live supernaturally and to consider abiding in a natural manner instead.
