WHY MAHARAJ ABANDONED RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL VERSIONS OF THE ULTIMATE MEDICINE AND TURNED HIS FOCUS TO PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALING INSTEAD
Previously, two tools were mentioned that have been used here over the last 31+ years when working with, literally, thousands of seekers.
The purpose of both tools, it was shared earlier, is to begin un-doing the
confusion, the learned ignorance, the personality disorders and the various
degrees of insanity that are so common among the masses and that trap then in
the belief in - and dissemination of - lies. The two were identified as
follows:
one tool is called "The 180-Degree Rule" and another is called
"Obliterating the Present Thought-Based Mode of Talking and Becoming
Skilled at Using Only The Vocabulary of Restored Sanity / Full
Realization."
The first tool is used to try to allow seekers to see that, as a result of their
programming, conditioning, domestication, programming, brainwashing and
indoctrination they are . . .
(a) operating under the auspices of a "mind" that contains thousands
of concepts and ideas and beliefs; and that,
(b) every one of those concepts and ideas and beliefs is 180-degrees opposite
of the truth.
Recall certain earlier examples:
The former governor of Texas either believes - or wants his right-wing
supporters to believe that he believes - that if enough people pray at the same
moment and pray with enough faith that they can make it rain.
Five thousand years ago, communities believed their leaders who said that they could make it rain if the leaders each had sex with a virgin (to appease the angry rain god); then cut out her beating heart; then watched the priest eat her body and drink her blood; then joined in as he passed the heart among the crowd as all ate the body and the blood; and then believing that, by doing that, they were entering into communion with their God and pleasing their God and then having faith that the ceremony would assure that rain would come. ("If not, we will keep fornicating with virgins and killing them until it does rain.")
Now, each week,
around the globe, two billion people reenact that pagan ritual of human
sacrifice in their churches without having a clue that they are modeling one of
the most savage acts that humans have ever dreamed up.
BELIEF: I have the power to control the weather.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: I do not have the power to make it rain.
BELIEF: There is a god in another world who is in charge of weather patterns
here, and if we do not like the decisions he has made about the weather, we can
ask Him to change his mind and to change the weather that He has selected and
to give us instead the weather we want.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE:
1. There is no god in another world who is charge of weather patterns in this
world.
2. If there were a perfect god in another world who is always right about
everything He does, then He would not change his mind because humans ask Him
to.
3. We humans - always suffering from "The Goldilocks Syndrome" that
assures dualistic thoughts - will never be satisfied with weather conditions.
If the grain
farmers in South Texas hate the drought, the South Texas growers of grapes that
they use to make the wines they sell love it; if a hurricane headed for
Louisiana or Texas turns north and goes into Florida and Alabama, the people in
Louisiana and Texas might love it, but the people in Florida and Alabama will
hate it. For some, it is too cold, for others it is too hot. The day that is
"just right" is rare in the realm of Goldilocks and in the realm of
non-realized persons.
4. It is insane for me to think I can control the weather, and insane for me to
complain about the weather. Grandmother was once asked, "You and your
family have been farmers for decades, totally dependent on weather conditions,
but not once in the eighty years I've known you have I ever heard you make any
comment, good or bad, about the weather. Why is that?" She gave the
answer that all of the realized among the indigenous peoples gave: "When
it is cold, it is cold; when it is hot, it is hot." With that answer,
those listening for the most part concluded that she was losing her mental
faculties, unaware that she had no mental faculties and that the consciousness
was sharing pure wisdom.
BELIEF: We can be closer to God and can - as a result of that closeness -
have a good chance of avoiding what we want to avoid and a good chance of
getting what we want to get - if we commune with God regularly by eating his
Son's body and drinking his Son's blood.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: (A) We are as ignorant as pagans were 5000 years
ago, and (B) sane people would likely throw up if they really thought they were
drinking human blood and eating human body. We are not assuming the role of
"The Good and Faithful Religious People" when we do that. We are
assuming the role of "The Vampire" and "The Cannibal." That
is not evidence of being "good"; that is evidence of being insane.
BELIEF: A man told his wife in counseling that what he did with four
different women during his marriage did not constitute infidelity because he
only had oral sex with them, not sex-sex.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: Yes, there have been four periods during our
marriage when I had one type of sexual relationship or another with four
different women. By definition, those were all acts of infidelity.
BELIEF: A woman said she hated her husband's Personality Type Nine traits
that inspired avoidance and passive-aggressive behaviors while she has
practiced avoidance and passive-aggressive behaviors with her employers for
decades.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: If I am sane and Realized, then I understand that
nothing outside of me, including my husband, can determine how I feel inside. I
am blaming my husband for the way I feel and I am using psychological
projection to try to take the traits within myself that I hate and to be rid of
them by projecting them onto my husband and then hating my own traits that I
believe are being mirrored by him. That is just as crazy as it would be if I
were to look in a mirror, see wrinkles on my face for the first time, and then
blame the mirror and hate the mirror.
BELIEF: I resent my teacher and believe that teacher to be insane if that
teacher shares anything that challenges my beliefs and ideas and concepts and
identities.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: Similar to being angry with the mirror that
reveals the flaws in my image, it is just as insane for me to become angry or
resentful with my teacher / guru if she or he holds up a mirror and allows me
to see my false self / false selves, my false personalities, the plethora of
personality defects and liabilities and flaws that come with each personality
assumed as an actual identity, and the evidences of insanity that are
constantly being revealed via my insane thoughts and my insane words and my
insane deeds.
After having been "driven crazy" by way of the programming and conditioning and domestication and acculturation that is disseminated by dysfunctional families, by self-serving and arrogant and greedy institutions, and by totally dysfunctional cultures, most will never touch their own insanity.
Even though
(A) most can see the insanity of others around them - shouting "Look at
that idiot!" in traffic; complaining about "my stupid, crazy
boss" to spouses or friends or relatives; and complaining to friends
and relatives about this report or that report on television involving locals
in the news who are deemed "crazy" as well as national and
international politicians in the news who are deemed "crazy" -
(B) most persons will never be able to see their own insanity.
That is why here, the approach is to begin by exposing the ignorance and
insanity of one's programming and conditioning and domestication and
acculturation that is disseminated by dysfunctional families, institutions, and
cultures;
to invite seekers to question all that they have previously accepted
unquestioningly; to invite seekers to see that they are not who or what they
think they are; and to invite them to see that their skills in the areas of
logic and reason and rationality are lacking.
Eventually, if seekers can move beyond pointing out the ignorance and insanity
of "others," then they might begin to see their own. When that begins
to happen, "The 180-Degree Rule" is offered as a tool that can assist
some seekers in seeing not only how warped the widely-held beliefs and ideas
and concepts in their cultures are but also how equally warped are all of their
own bogus beliefs and ideas and concepts that are stored in their own
"minds."
As with "the journey" that requires seekers to go back, to follow the
distorting "path" in the exact reverse order by which they came to be
so far removed from Self and logic and reason and sanity, so too must seekers
back out of their insanity the same way they were led into that state.
The way "they" lead persons into insanity and then inspire them to
stay in their insane states is to set up the thought-to word-to deed pattern of
functioning in the relative. The example of that pattern which has been offered
in the past deals with the case of several white supremacists in Jasper, Texas
who killed a black man.
The whites first had the thought "I am different from black
people and I am better than black people." Then they began organizing
meetings in Jasper where whites stood before other whites and used words
to express orally their hatred for blacks.
Thoughts lead to words, and words led to the deed of three men
kidnapping the black man James Byrd, taking him to a remote, country road,
placing a chain around his neck, attaching it to the back of their truck, and
pulling him along the road until he was decapitated.
Thought . . . word . . . deed. That is the current modus operandi of
non-Realized humans. They think; then they talk and talk and talk about what
they are thinking and believing, showing off their supposed knowledge; showing
how wise they supposedly are; showing how different they think they are from
"lesser" people; showing how much better they supposedly are from
others; and pushing their beliefs on others. After such talking, they
eventually act on those words. Their thoughts drive their words and their words
drive their behavior.
And because their thoughts are based in ignorance at best - and insanity at the
extreme - then their words and their behaviors can be nothing other than
ignorant and insane as well. The part of the brain called "the mind,"
which served the species well for thousands of years, has now turned on its
hosts and is devouring them from within.
Where the untapped inner guru could be leading to constructive behavior
(relatively speaking) the tapped "mind" is doing the opposite. The
use of "The 180-Degree Rule" has enabled some to reverse out of their
illogical and insane behavior. How?
It is far easier for persons to see their obtuse behaviors than to hear their
own obtuse words when they are being spoken while asleep and while being spewed
forth while under the influence of their desire-and-fear-based personalities.
It is also far easier for persons . . .
to see their deeds, and
to hear their words, and (if looked at objectively)
to see that both are often illogical and / or insane
than it is for persons to see the machinations of their fiction-filled
"minds" and the learned ignorance and illogical beliefs and
nonsensical concepts and distorted ideas that are stored therein.
Too, the ego(s) - the false identities / personalities - stored therein are far
too protective of themselves than to drop their guard and to accept the Truth
that would allow belief in those false identities to end and that would free
persons from their proud attachment to their beliefs and that would allow all
of their bogus ideas and concepts to be purged.
But, if persons can use the 180-Degree tool to see that their actions are often
driven by ignorance and insanity - an admission that can come only if the
self-defeating patterns of their behaviors are finally seen objectively - then
those same persons might wake up to what they are saying and stop talking in
their sleep.
Moreover, if they stop talking in their sleep, then they might also eventually
be awake enough to complete an objective, teacher-guided self inventory
(looking at all of the false selves that are stored in the mind and that are
working hand-in-hand with the bogus concepts and ideas and concepts stored in
their "minds" to generate chaos and disharmony);
then they might finally be able to look objectively at the content of the
"mind" and allow a teacher to - eventually - lead them away from
their attachment to the content of the "mind" and then finally lead
them to the freedom that comes when no longer abiding under the influence of
the lies therein.
If the ignorance and insanity stored in the "mind" is cast aside,
then ignorant and insane thoughts cannot lead to ignorant or insane words; and
if ignorant and insane words are not spoken, then ignorant and insane deeds,
obviously, cannot follow.
The seeker at that point will have used the tool to reverse out the relative
messes that were being generated via the thought-word-deed continuum and can
thereby begin earnestly the "journey" to being fully restored to
sanity.
Only when insane thoughts end as a result of a total "mind"-flush can
peace come. (Thus the book, There's No Such Thing As "Peace of
Mind" (There Is Only Peace if You're Out of Your Mind).
So, you are
invited to consider other examples of the way that the use of "The
180-Degree Rule" can assist in the restoration of sanity if it is applied
to every deed and then eventually to every word - before the word is
even spoken - and eventually to every thought.
Consider more examples, then, of the way that the rule can work to eliminate
the belief in lies:
IDEA: From the stupor of one morning hangover after another, the brain
can inspire the mouth to say, "I'll never do that again!" Wise
counsel from the brain indeed.
But by 5 P.M., the "mind" says, "Well, you could have
just have one drink. You know you need it before you go home and face what's
waiting there." Overriding the constructive messages from the brain,
the "mind" is hell-bent on destroying the self.
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: "For me to say time and again that I will
never do anything again, only to do it again and again and again, is insane.
Obviously, some other action is going to be required if I am to address this
relative existence problem."
BELIEF [Recall this from an earlier discussion]: A woman tolerating a
husband who characterizes his blows against her body as "mere love
taps" believes that she is the one who causes him to lash out at her,
expressing the distorted view that "if he didn't truly care, he
couldn't get so emotional, so that shows that he really does love me."
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: Anyone striking anyone else is never evidence that
an abuser "truly cares." Quite to the contrary, it shows that the
abuser does not care. The fact that he becomes so emotional does not show that
he really love me. It shows that he is a really sick, abusive, controlling,
person who thinks he owns me because he pays my bills and whose rages and
hitting both show that he is suffering not only from ignorance and insanity and
emotional intoxication but also from a huge case of assholism; furthermore, if
I stay and tolerate physical, mental, emotional and verbal abuse, my own
ignorance and insanity are revealed."
CONCEPT: "As President of the U.S., I am telling you that it is
in the name of justice that we are going to use the entire might of the
U.S. Armed Forces to shock and awe the citizenry of another country and make
them pay for our having been attacked."
BELIEF: "Yes, we Americans must support our leader and our troops who
are going to bring about justice and who are also going to protect us
and our country."
180-DEGREES OPPOSITE: "Our leaders and most of the citizens of our
country have a 200-year history of re-labeling our invasions and our onslaughts
against the people of other nations (onslaughts which always involve our troops
bombarding and murdering and, yes, even raping before killing) as
'justice'."
[Warning: To those playing the role of "The Super Patriot": you will
likely want to skip the next example of the widespread and widely-held
distortion among the general populace of militaristic nations]
IDEA: "We support our troops. They are fighting 'them' - 'over
there' - so we do not have to fight them 'here.' The brave men and women in
uniform are the finest citizens in our country. There are none who are their
equal. They are our best, our bravest, our most loyal, our finest."
180-DEGREE OPPOSITE: Blind loyalty is another form of ignorance, be it
blind loyalty to a creed, blind loyalty to a nation, blind loyalty to a text
deemed to be 'holy,' blind loyalty to one's dogma, or blind loyalty to leaders
with their hidden agendas.
Mafia hit men / mafia soldiers who are also loyal to their commander-in-chief / godfathers take money to kill whomever their commander-in-chief / godfather tells them to kill, even though the hit men do not know the people they are going to kill and even though the people they are going to kill have done nothing to the hit men, and never will.
If I am logical
and reasonable and sane, I must accept nothing based on blind loyalty and blind
faith in the words of others. I must ask, "Are our nation's trained,
professional hit men 'the finest' and 'the bravest,' killing people from great
distances? Are they really 'our finest citizens,' going around the globe and
following their leaders' orders to kill other people? Are they really 'our
best,' or are they merely trained, professional killers who are no different
from organized crimes' hit men? Are they 'our best' merely because their blind
loyalty allows them to kill whomever they are told to kill, without
question?"
Relatedly:
BELIEF: "We live in the greatest country on earth."
180-DEGREE OPPOSITE: It makes no sense to express the
ego-and-egotism-based-belief that our country is "the greatest." What
is my basis for drawing that conclusion? I have not visited every other nation
so that I can now speak from my own experience.
I see now that I am merely talking in my sleep, repeating the chauvinistic, xenophobic propaganda that I have heard all my life and that I now see is nothing more than a collection of misinformation and outright falsehoods that generate racism, intolerance, arrogance, and our national sense of superiority that drives us to rationalize whatever we do to the people of other nations around the globe."
To be continued.
