HOW RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL AND NON-DUAL MESSAGES HAVE BEEN WARPED BEYOND RECOGNITION
If interested in pursuing realization via non-duality, might it be time to consciously choose which method best suits you?
If so, here’s how:
Take a scenario and conduct a test and determine which method might work better for you than all others.
In addition to the Traditional Advaita Method, The Neo-Advaita Method, the Neo-Advaita Method, and the Direct Path Method, there is a fifth which some discuss: The Pseudo Non-Duality Method.
That fifth method is the most widespread. Why? Because as the name indicates, it is not really a non-dual method at all. It includes thousands of permutations and mutations of what marked non-duality early on but now has nothing whatsoever to do with the authentic message.
Michael of California sat in the loft in Bombay (Mumbai now) and heard Maharaj warn the visitors there to stay away from those he called “The Big Name Teachers.”
Those are the one who have become millionaires by drawing seekers into huge venues and offering a message that has nothing to do with the actual message; selling millions of books to the seeking public; and giving talks which appeals to relative existence desires, talks regarding such non-dual topics as topics as “success”;
as “10 Secrets for Success”; as “The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire” as “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams,” yada, yada, yada.
Let it be said that when trying to choose a method of non-duality which might be effective for you, you must first develop the ability to spot messages which are dealing with self-centered relative issues.
That said, let’s look at a scenario and see which of the other four methods might be effective with you and with others who are seeking.
This was shared for your consideration yesterday:
“Is it possible that everything you have ever read or ever been told and now believe is false?”
John Heywood said: “There are none so blind as those who will not see. His point was that the most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know.
Nowadays, it can be said that none are so blind as those who are living in the delusion called “choice” or “free will.” I mentioned in a post last summer that I was working with a 69-year-old woman who called to tell me that her priest was “driving her crazy” with his “rudeness to parishioners,” and his “lack of gratitude for all the work she was doing, without pay, for the church,” and his “rigid, ultra-strict attitudes and homilies.”
Then, “For the last several months, he has made me angrier than ever.” My laughter at that comment also made her angry. After she asked, “What the hell is funny about that?” I answered, “I might have the time it would take to reply to all of that, but I’m not going to waste my breath to respond.”
The consideration about that is this: That woman is intelligent, yet intelligence can be as much of an obstacle as the thousands of other obstacles which block understanding.
She earned high GPAs every semester in college. She got a job as a professional. She succeeded in her job and retired and has been independent and is “paying her own way.”
So when she comes to say what she said, isn’t the solution to her quandary a no-brainer? Wouldn’t any sane person conclude, “You know what. Dealing with the priest and this corrupt church is insane. I’m done!”
The rub? She is not making conscious choices and is not exercising free will by staying in that church and dealing with that ass of a priest and with an entirely corrupt organization which is run by those enabling child molesters.
I asked her about rampant molestation in her church. Her justification for continuing her relationship with them and offering her time and service and money and gifts and facilitating the continuing molestation. She said: “There are a few bad apples in every organization.”
But for the most part, she never gives a second's of consideration about that issue.
Recall: “The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know.”
So what is she driven by? One option is “learned ignorance” and another option is succumbing to the influence of the hidden agendas of assigned or assumed identities.
Assigned to her from early on were “The Good Girl” and “The Good Catholic” who became upgraded to “The Super Good Catholic Woman.”
Another possibility is this: One has no free will or ability to make choices when the most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know because they are sleepwalkers as a result of having been programmed, conditioned, domesticated, acculturated, brainwashed and indoctrinated.
Okay. Let’s now use that scenario to test the method that might be most effective in waking her up.
Often guides, gurus or “teachers” who use the Traditional Advaita require their “protégés” to either have an ability to read Sanskrit or learn to read Sanskrit. Their focus will involve plowing through ancient texts. That would not likely address her issue.
The Neo-Vedanta Method which was spread mainly by Vivekanada and his followers is basically a “watered down” version of Traditional Advaita blended with seemingly sublime or exalted or emotion-inspiring statements which deal with dreaming on an idea and then succeeding; with believing in yourself (which is already a major part of her problem); with making yourself strong;
with finding god and gaining power (which is also a
prime motivator in her supporting an institution plagued with a history of
child molestation); and with using thoughts to create a new reality (really?) All of those
concepts are in direct opposition to the understanding presented via the Direct
Path, nisarga yoga approach.
As for the Neo-Advaita approach: would it assist the woman in
becoming free of what is really driving her unconsciously to be told that there
is nothing to see or to understand?
Finally, the Direct Path Method would attempt to help her understand the sources which are subconsciously and unconsciously driving her; seeing that the ego-states which are her main influencers are false;
seeing the effects of being driven unconsciously by warped programming, conditioning, domestication, acculturation, brainwashing and indoctrination; and understanding that she is “deluded because she is ignoring what she already knows.”
She is going into an institution where a man is beating up on her regularly, mentally and emotionally. Some other people are staying in a relationship where the same is happening to them and also includes physical abuse.
She is also contributing to the continuance of an institution which abuses children and others. Moreover, she is living in the lie that all of her actions can be justified.
Now, if you are facing anything which might be calling for change, which non-dual method might be most effective for you?
