An Advaita forum focusing on Realisation, enlightenment, non-duality, Real Love, peace, freedom, Your original nature, abiding naturally, the Oneness, the Nothingness, and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.

FROM A VIEWER OF THE RETREAT DVD'S: I bought the DVD set of one of your retreats and there were so many things you said that I disagreed with--but watching them later..many times..that changed. But one thing you say on occasion is still nagging me. I was raised in a church home and was told to find the reason God put me on earth and that I could never be happy unless I found "His plan for me" and then spent my life doing whatever that was. I bought into that "raison d'etre" theory, tried to let that be the driving force in my life for years, came across your website, and started getting free of all of that. I thought I was, but whenever you talk about what some of the "big names' write about--you know meaning and purpose and all--I flash back and then the nagging starts again and I hear someone say A LIFE WITHOUT MEANING IS WORTHLESS. Will I ever be able to let go of that? How can anyone be free of the ideas of meaning and purpose and still feel fulfilled?

F.: Finally, the notion that there is some "one" who can find a purpose to give her / his life meaning ignores the fact that no "one" exists at all. There is a coming together of elements which form a body-cum-consciousness through which air circulates. Elements. Conscious-energy. Air. That's it, and even that form is a temporary space.

THERE IS NO DO-ER WHO CAN FIND A PURPOSE AND THEN DO WHATEVER THAT PURPOSE SUPPOSEDLY INVOLVES
Only when the pure consciousness is blocked can "one" think something more exists during this relative existence than a temporary space with consciousness and air; only when the pure consciousness is blocked can "one" mistake itself as a person with purpose: the helper, the savior, the rescuer, the teacher, the leader, the reformer or one or more of an infinite variety of false roles that are assumed to be doing something "good" and "meaningful."

Maharaj: "The Self does not identify itself with success or failure - the very idea of becoming this or that is unthinkable."

THERE IS NO WORLD IN WHICH "ONE'S" PURPOSE CAN BE DONE NOR IS THERE A WORLD IN WHICH ANY MEANING CAN EXIST
The fact is, no effort will have any permanent effect of changing "the world" because there is no world to change beyond the world that is imagined by the corruption-filled "mind."

Maharaj: "The world is but a show, glittering and empty. It is, and yet is not. It is there as long as I want to see it and take part in it. When I cease caring, it dissolves. It has no cause and serves no purpose."

F.: How can there be any sense of purpose when what exists is a set of elements with the witnessing consciousness that is circulating air? WHO would be doing the doings? The earth elements? The air? The witnessing consciousness that can do nothing except see accurately or inaccurately?

Maharaj said: "There is no sense of purpose in my doing anything. Things happens as they happen - not because I make them happen, but it is because I am that they happen"

and

"obsessed with the idea of means and end, of work and purpose, you see me apparently functioning. In reality I only look. Whatever is done, is done on the stage. Joy and sorrow, life and death, they all are real to the man in bondage; to me they are all in the show, as unreal as the show itself."

"PURPOSE" AND "MEANING" ARE JUST MORE OF THE FICTIONAL "STUFF" OF THE CONCEPTUALIZING "MIND"
Maharaj: "The mind must have a purpose. To encourage it to free itself from the unreal, it is promised something in return. In reality, there is no need of purpose. Living is life's only purpose"

and

"through the film of your mind you project a world and also a God to give it cause and purpose. It is all imagination - step out of it."

THE ALTERNATIVE TO TRYING TO LIVE WITH A PURPOSE AND MEANING
Maharaj: "Live without self-concern. Once you know with absolute certainty that nothing can trouble you but your own imagination, you come to disregard your desires and fears, your concepts and ideas, and live by truth alone."

F.: Live without any delusions, including the delusion that you are changing the world or that you have some noble purpose or that you are giving meaning to your life or that of others. That's all delusional. What happens can still happen, yet it need never again be cloaked in delusion and egotism or in anything assumed to be personal or purposeful or meaningful.

Maharaj: "In the great mirror of consciousness images arise and disappear and only memory gives them continuity. And memory is material - destructible, perishable, transient. On such flimsy foundations we build a sense of personal existence -vague, intermittent, dreamlike. This vague persuasion: 'I-am-so-and-so' obscures the changeless state of pure awareness and makes us believe that we are born to suffer and to die."

F.: Forget all the nonsensical talk about "suffering being meaningful," about "birth and death and about purpose and meaning in between," about "never being happy unless you find God's plan for you and then spend your life doing whatever that was pre-determined to be."

Maharaj: "You mean to say everybody's life is totally determined at his birth? What a strange idea! Were it so, the power that determines would see to it that nobody should suffer."

F.: Understand that you cannot be a savior of persons or a helper to persons or a reformer of persons. There are no "persons" to save or help or reform.

Questioner: "We are told of the great avatars, the saviours of the world."

Maharaj: "Did they save? They have come and gone and the world plods on. To talk of saving the world is an exaggeration."

F.: Do you have even greater purpose and meaning and ability than Moses? Than Christ? Than Mohammad? Than the big name Advaitin teachers of the East? Than current Advaitin teachers? Than the big name teachers and authors presently on the circuit? Than thousands of world leaders who have come and gone?

What have any of them changed? Anything for the better? No. Not one thing is permanently better for their having lived and taught or written. What egotism for a person to think that he / she can have a significant purpose and a meaningful existence when all of those combined have not made "the world" a permanently better place to even the slightest degree.

"SAVE YOURSELF" FROM CONTINUING TO BELIEVE THE NONSENSE YOU HAVE BEEN TAUGHT AND HEARD AND READ
F.: Abandon your attachment to anything and everything, including personal quests and personal causes and personal missions. The U.S. was founded by persons who claimed that "America has a mission in the world." That concept has led to interference in the affairs of other nations around the globe and has inspired hatred and attack.

The statement that "they hate us for our freedoms" is ego-based, arrogance-based, delusion-based, ignorance-based, denial-supporting BS of the highest order. "They" hate the U.S. not for the freedoms enjoyed by its citizens but because the nation has taken away the freedoms of people all around the globe.

The statement shows the kind of obtuseness and stupidity that comes from a leader and a population that think their nation has a global purpose and a world mission and a meaningful role, all of which leads to interference and attack and efforts at nation-building. Of that, Maharaj said:

"The description and causation are the remedy for a disease caused by obtuseness and stupidity. Just like a deficiency disease is cured through the supply of the missing factor, so are the diseases of living cured by a good dose of intelligent detachment."

F.: And the "obtuseness and stupidity" exhibited by arrogant leaders who assume their nation has some noble purpose is also exhibited by individuals in those nations when they assume a noble purpose.

The invitation here is to abandon all causes and quests and missions and just be. There is no other form or space on the planet except persons who live so unnaturally and so egotistically that they can imagine that they can have a noble purpose and that they can build a life that has godly or world-changing meaning. What a dream, and what a nightmare.

Questioner: "If both dream and escape from dream are imaginings, what is the way out?"

Maharaj: "There is no need of a way out! Don't you see that a way out is also a part of the dream? All you have to do is to see the dream as dream"

and

"your problem is that you like one part of your dream and not another. Love all, or none of it, and stop complaining. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs be done."

F.: See the dream as a dream:

"God put me on earth"? A dream which will lead to a nightmare.

"I can never be happy unless I found God's plan for me and then spend my life doing whatever that is." A dream which will lead to a nightmare.

"I hear someone say A LIFE WITHOUT MEANING IS WORTHLESS." You are hearing such talk in your sleep...in your dream. Stop believing your dreams are real or true. That is a setup for nightmares.

"How can anyone be free of the ideas of meaning and purpose and still feel fulfilled?" Another dream which will lead to a nightmare.

Stop dreaming. Awaken to Reality and be free. Be free of the arrogance that is inspired when one is convinced that she / he has a great purpose and has a life with great meaning. Reach this clearer perspective: How important are you, really? A Thai farmer said, “If I die, my family will weep for me. If my buffalo dies, my family will starve.” That's an egoless perspective.

Purpose and meaning will wear you out and will wear out everyone who suffers the misfortune of coming into contact with you if you are on a quest...on a mission. To abide as naturally and peacefully and freely as the deer and the birds and the fish (that is, to abide in the peace of an egoless state), abandon belief in all illusions, including the one that persons are real and including the one that meaningful and purposeful persons can make real and permanent change in a world that is not even real and in a world that is nothing more than the imagining of a fiction-filled "mind."

The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders offers the non-duality message by way of a mystery-adventure novel, discussing the movement from pain to healing to awakening to peace.
From Dr. R.F. Maley, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Houston: "Floyd Henderson's book, The Twice-Stolen Necklace Murders, is a fun read and an interesting mystery, but perhaps more importantly it serves as a vehicle for blending Eastern Philosophy and Native American Spirituality to make an intellectually challenging novel. The book's insights into both relationships and authoritarian conditioning of people in our society make it a must read, tracing the roots of narcissistic, sociopathic and psychopathic behaviors to the very core of the culture. This truly witty and politically-incorrect study of the aggressive nature of 'the American character' offers not only a diagnosis but also a treatment plan, making the book an excellent supplemental reading in courses such as psychology, anthropology, philosophy, sociology and counseling."

Five Free eBooks

Compliments of Andy Gugar, Jr.,
the following eBooks are available without charge for you or for friends:

I.
"GOOD vs. EVIL?" or "IGNORANCE, STUPIDITY, and INSANITY?"

The content of this eBook deals with one of the most common but erroneous beliefs that the non-Realized masses cling to and which they will fight about (and even kill over), namely, that there is a planet-wide duel going on between “the forces of good and evil” in the universe.

Either (1) the ancient view is spot on: that the "ills of the planet" are rooted in evil people, in people not being religious enough or spiritual enough, and are caused solely by bad morality; or, (2) the "ills of the planet" are rooted in ignorance, stupidity and insanity and "being good" or "being moral" does not put an end to ignorance, does not eliminate stupidity, and does not treat insanity in any way.

II.
"THE VISION"

Comments regarding the free eBook entitled “THE VISION”:

“My thanks to you and Andy.” – Andrew “Mac” McMaster

“Thanks so much for the book! And, by the way, it is brilliant and the most effective pointing that you have done. It has served to help clear the remaining blockages.” – Stan Cross

“Greatly appreciate having “THE VISION” added to my Henderson resource library that is situated on the right side of my bed for easy access! Eternally grateful for what was received and what was given.” – Robert Rigby

“‘THE VISION’ is such a well-written, condensed version of the Nisarga Yoga approach to understanding and enjoying Reality that I feel it can serve as a must-read ‘meditation guide’ for all earnest seekers.” – Andy Gugar, Jr.

III.
"Sapolsky, Maharaj, and the Non-Dual Teachings"

Dr. Robert Maurice Sapolsky is an American neuroendocrinologist; a professor of biology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery at Stanford University; a researcher; an author; and a Research Associate at the National Museums of Kenya.

There is much that a non-dualist or Advaitin or Nisargan can relate to by comparing and contrasting what Sapolsky reveals about the way certain troops of baboons live in Africa with the way that humans abide all around the globe.

This 152-page eBook catalogues the common, non-dual message shared by Sapolsky and Maharaj and reveals the ways that Sapolsky’s scientific research supports the non-dual pointers offered by Maharaj.

IV.
Seeking

In “PART ONE” it will be seen that most persons on the planet are not seeking, and most will never seek, but for those who are seeking, most will face several obstacles:

In “PART TWO” of this book, it will be seen why many criticized Maharaj for “changing his message in his later talks.” It will be seen that the changes were not about changing the message per se as much as about changing his methodology as he experimented with one version of the Ultimate Medicine after another in order to try to find an effective means for addressing the Ultimate Sickness.

He tried a religious version of the Medicine, a Spiritual version of the Medicine, and finally settled on a version which addressed to Sickness at its core . . . at the mental and emotional level.

V.
"THE MOST DANGEROUS BELIEF OF ALL"

“Dangerous” is a term that can only apply during the relative existence, but of those who do commit suicide, for example, how many shoot themselves in the foot over and over until they “bleed out”? None. They shoot themselves in the head. Why? In order to try to stop the noise - to try to stop the chatter of a thousand monkeys – to stop the noisy mind which is the area that stores the ideas, notions, concepts, mind-stuff, etc. which drives them into the depths of insanity.

And what are those ideas, notions, concepts, etc. called, collectively? "Their beliefs." The irony? They are not their beliefs at all. They are the beliefs of “others” that were set in place via programming, conditioning, etc. and which persons then think are their own.

And what are those beliefs rooted in, and what reinforces those beliefs and convinces persons that they are sacred and worth fighting over and even sometimes worth dying for? Blind faith.

This 337-page eBook discusses those issues in detail.

To read any or all of the free eBooks, please double-click the "FREEBIES" link at the top of this page
