Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
F.: It was asked by Maharaj, "When you refuse to open your eyes, what can you be shown?"
and
"How can you have insight into my state when you are without insight into your own? When the very instrument of insight is lacking, is it not important to find it first? It is like a blind man wanting to learn painting before he regains his eyesight."
The condition among the non-Realized persons around the planet is that they "refuse to open their eyes," and even if they do, they lack the insight to see the Truth.
A friend who is a licensed psychologist suggests that she and her colleagues over the years have agreed that the most difficult cases to work with involve those dealing with narcissists, sociopaths, and anorexics.
Narcissists and sociopaths can only see themselves, what they desire, and how things "affect" them. Narcissists have no ability to see others beyond the way that others can be used to fulfill the narcissists' own selfish, self-centered desires. It is nearly impossible to guide persons with either of those two personality disorders to see anything beyond themselves...beyond their false selves.
But often the most tiring and fruitless of all tasks that psychologists face involve trying to help anorexics see realistically. One young woman was 5'8" tall but weighed only 74 pounds (33.64 kilos). When placed before a mirror in a swimsuit and asked to share what she sees, the young woman reported, "I see fat."
Maharaj: "It is the 'I-am-the-body' idea that is so calamitous. It blinds you completely to your real nature."
Yet persons around the globe who would claim that "the woman in that example who is so blind to reality must be insane" are as equally blind to Reality, to the lies they believe, to the degree of their own ignorance.
Maharaj: "An ignorant man is ignorant of his ignorance. You may call it unconsciousness or blindness."
The population of the planet, except for the few that have Realized, are as incapable as she of seeing anything in the relative existence as it really is; therefore, they are most assuredly incapable of seeing anything to do with the Absolute at all.
Every person - that is, all of the non-Realized on the planet - look at everything through anorexic eyes...through eyes that are blind to Reality, blind to truth, blind to what they are not, and blind to That Which They Are.
How quickly the message here is discarded when "zero concepts" or "no mind" or "Identify only with the nothingness" are offered.
Maharaj: "It is your fixed idea that you must be 'something or other' that blinds you."
The young woman above, when asserting "I am fat," is no more in error than a woman asserting "I am a super wife" or a man declaring "I am a super husband"; than the person declaring "I am a good person" or "I am a bad person";
than someone declaring "I am an alcoholic" or "I am a Christian / Muslim / Jew / whatever"; than anyone following "I am" with any limiting noun or limited adjective:
"I am suffering because I am alone and because I am lonely"; "I am an Advaitin"; "I am a knowledgeable person"; "I am better than you"; "I am different from you"; "I am right and you are wrong."
Some few set out to seek truth, yet even they will fail because they have not first seen all that is false:
Questioner: "When do I know that I have discovered truth?"
Maharaj: "When the idea 'this is true', 'that is true' does not arise. Truth does not assert itself, it is in the seeing of the false as false and rejecting it. It is useless to search for truth, when the mind is blind to the false. It must be purged of the false completely before truth can dawn on It."
What an obstacle. At least the blind know that they are blind, but the anorexic woman above has no clue that she cannot see. Nor do the rest on the planet who are non-Realized and are, therefore, lost in a dream but convinced that they are awake, blind but claiming that they see perfectly. So it is, but so it need not be.
