Here, there is nothing that is believed, so there is no one here who wants you to believe anything, either. Here, the invitation is to be free of all that you have been programmed, conditioned, acculturated, and domesticated to believe so that you can be free, period.
F.: A man in Australia shared yesterday during a Skype session that when he recently mentioned "Oneness" to a Christian, the reaction was that he needed to "forget all that talk about oneness and focus on what Jesus taught."
As usual, Christians are the least informed about the actual teachings offered by the one they worship who was not named "Jesus" at all but whose real name was Yeshu'a (which was a very common name in the Middle East two millennia ago).
[How uninformed are they? Two billion of them today worship a woman who was pregnant and gave birth but who claimed that she was still a virgin. They worship a man-Savior who was supposedly born of a virgin. Find how many of them know that Christianity is the 23rd, not the 1st, religion to claim that their Savior was born of a virgin. Pregnant out of wedlock in a culture that stones such women to death? Heard twenty-two other stories about women who were pregnant out of wedlock but who were not killed because they claimed that they were still virgins since they had supposedly been impregnated by angels or gods? Tell your story, stick to it, and live. That Mary did, but how many of those two billion worshippers today know those facts?]
Interesting, the belief set forth by a self-identified "Christian" that "Jesus" would not have endorsed the teaching of oneness. Evidently, that religion's teachings about "a trinity that is One" - about a "three-in-one-combination" that they consume regularly during communion - slipped his mind.
In addition to not knowing the real name of the one they worship and depend on for "eternal continuity" (a.k.a., "salvation"), they have no clue at all that during the final three years of his life he was sharing:
(a) the Advaita teachings rather than (b) any teachings that were "unique to him" and rather than (c) any teachings from the Jewish writings that he would have been exposed to in his youth. Consider these statements - if indeed he was quoted accurately - which show that he had been exposed to the Advaita teachings and was sharing them as well:
When you speak of me, speak of me as I AM
and
Before Abraham was, I AM.
How much confusion has arisen from the uninformed Christian ministers who have tried to explain - or explain away - those lines? How many have tried to dodge the questions completely, as happened every time that "floyd" asked preachers about those two lines in the churches of his youth?
If "a Christian" is not familiar with the summative statement of Advaita, I AM THAT; I AM, then she / he will have no clue that it was Advaitin pointers that were being taught by the one they call "Jesus" or "The Christ."
[Most do not connect those I AM quotes with the version that Moses plagiarized and placed in the mouth of a burning bush / god, leaving off the semi-colon in the process. As a result, Jews and Christians alike read "I AM THAT I AM" and conclude, "Ahhh, deep. I don't understand it, but that is very deep." The same happens with When you speak of me, speak of me as I AM and Before Abraham was, I AM.]
If other statements attributed to Yeshu'a / Jesus were accurate, he also offered these Advaita pointers:
No one shall ever see the kingdom of heaven - it is within
and
Heaven and earth shall fade away.
And if there is no heaven, and if the concept of heaven shall fade away when the manifested consciousness fades away from the body-cum-consciousness of "believers," then there is no hell either. So much for the dualistic pair of "heaven vs. hell."
To understand how truly false those dualities are, consider the origins of the distorted beliefs about a "hell" that are a key part of the dogma of the three sky cults that evolved from Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). The following explanation is offered in the "It's All BS" book:
Nothing has fostered more guilt and anxiety and neuroses and psychoses than the fear that religion has put into the minds of humans, wondering if they’ll be eternally among the small select group that makes it into heaven or in the majority that will burn and suffer for eternity in hell. To know the meaning of one word Christ used dismantles the entire institution of Christianity (as well as Judaism and Islam) as currently being practiced. That word is “Gehanna.”
"Gehanna": A place in the valley of Gihinnom, or in some texts, just "Hinnom," used as a trash-burning site outside ancient Jerusalem.
In Gehanna, fires were kept burning 24-hours-per-day, seven days-per-week. Earlier, in this "Valley of Eternal Flames," as it came to be called, the Canaanites had thrown people as human sacrifice or as tortured enemies into the fires. Later, the Jewish people burned their city waste there and disposed of the bodies of state enemies or of slain criminals in those same flames.
“Gehanna” is the word used by Christ (who spoke Aramaic), but it was corrupted later in the New Testament into the Greek word “Hades,” which was translated into the English word even later as "hell." In the first century AD in the writing of Revelation, hell was expanded into a "fiery lake" of damnation and geographically relocated from its original Middle Eastern desert site outside Jerusalem and moved into the center of the earth.
(The pope prior to the present one even said that heaven and hell are not literally “geographic places” but are “states of mind.” Subsequently, his comments were labeled "misstatements" in certain Catholic writings that originated in Rome and that dismissed his pointer as nothing more than an age-related rambling. )
The point Christ was making was this: if you are separated from the inner resource, you’ll live in misery rather than in peace. So he used this comparison: you can live a life as comfortable as living in the fine city of Jerusalem or as miserable as living in Gehanna—the fiery trash dump. Christ never said that there was an eternal hell—a place of fiery punishment.
Again, Christians are the least informed about the actual teachings offered by the one they worship as "their Lord and Savior." They have no clue at all that he was teachings an Eastern-based philosophy rather than trying to establish a new, organized religion.
In fact, what did he model in the end? He left the organized religion of his youth, left the so-called "holy buildings," abandoned the teachings in his culture's so-called "holy texts," and shared the Advaita teachings in homes or on hillsides and in other natural settings.
What an irony that two billion persons are now members of an organized religion that worships one whose own actions should be making perfectly clear to them that, if they really want to be "Christ-like," they:
should abandon organized religion, should vacate any buildings thought to be "holy," should ignore any writings that are said to be "holy," should go into nature, should find the Advaita understanding, and should focus on the Oneness and not on a formerly-manifested speck of consciousness that was called Yeshu'a / Jesus and that is no more.
TOMORROW: The Advaita teachings shared by Yeshu'a / Jesus that discouraged the assumption of ego-states / false identities / roles / personality / personas.
